Love the pattern, and the lighter, fretted neck looks better with it IMHO. I didn’t like the wedge until it took on this important function.

No harm, no foul.

But as this is a true art piece: the leaves are real, suspended in resin, on top of an Alder body.

Probably stunning in person. But not intended to be a gigging bass. :joy:

Stopped in a local luthier/repair shop today to see what’s what and discovered Drake’s custom basses built out of Central Iowa–my part of the world. The owner/luthier of Nate’s Rock Shop (which offers custom wound pickups–wish I’d know to ask him more about that!) said he’d been building basses with Drake for over 20 years. This one was hanging on the wall and it looked very nice. A more straightforward Stingray style was also there and immaculate. That was more my jam, but I don’t have a pic.

The shop had a small number of toys for sale, mainly focussing on repairs, but a couple of appealing Mesa Rectifiers and a Genz Benz 210 were fun to dream about.

This 72 Fender J was so nice to play last night. Owner has been playing 3-4 gigs per week give or take since 1974. Incredibly sweet setup and is always stored in the hard case. And honest aging as it should be.

My, yes. It is stunning.

I really dug the original single cut F10, but its 5-string config was a dealbreaker.

This 4-string baby is premium from stem to stern. And it sounds amazing.
