i am hardly the expert on Spector. but the legendary ‘Spector Growl’ is a real thing, as evidenced by some really good videos i will link below. and most Spector diehards gravitate to (in order): haz labs preamps, darkglass preamps, aguilar preamps and tonepump preamps (all of these have been offered on Spector basses at various price points). almost everybody prefers emg pickups over the others that are offered, usually Aguilar or Bartolini. and purists will tell you that only the preferred setup will give you the TRUE spector growl. is this true? are these the same people that tell you only analog sounds good? i don’t know. i do know that I replaced the preamp in my pulse II from a tonepump to a haz clone. and truth be told I’m not sure if there is all that much of a difference. also i can tell you that bass sounds fantastic with either preamp in it.
anyhoo the spector growl. ian is playing the moss green lx that i have been planning to get. someday in the far future 
go to the 9 minute mark if you want to bask in the craziness. and Ale bringing the thunder at 1 minute with just a wee bit of distortion and some aggressive bridge picking.

Reaching back to the Spectors–I’d been associating them with a genre that ain’t my bag, and I was wrong. The body shape of the NS / Streamer is delightfully globby. It reminds me of the Garamond typeface 
But black burst or solid/flake colors for me, please.

Yeah. They look killer. I really wish they fit me. I tried (owned two of the Warwicks) but they just weren’t my thing. Loved their looks though!

Rockbass had inconsistencies, no? Was it the fit or those machines?
Modern Rockbasses are excellent, quality was fine. Don’t get one from the 2000s though.
It was the way the bass hung and positioned the fretboard relative to the body. Basically the thing always felt like it was an inch or so to the left of where it should be.
On the LX5, the string spacing irritated me too. Too narrow.
