kind of what I was thinking. a guy on talk bass said his was $260.
I love ESP. Not just for stuff like this, but definitely also for stuff like this
I have a hard time not wanting that bass just to have that bass, but the cost is just too nuts.
I have an ESP P/J, Rocco Prestia model, I love everything about it.
They do some really creative and different stuff, solid too.
Used can go cheap, they don’t seem to hold value well.
Depends on the model for sure. Their entry level lines (LTD, Grassroots) seem to go cheap fast. Edwards do better, used ones are still not super cheap I have found. MIJ ESP’s tend to hold value more though.
Yeah, like this one.
Same way I feel about this bass.
I have the ESP LTD version of this bass, but an older one. They used to use a black gloss finish, then they switched to this Matte Black. I love the Matt Black. they also added some sick body contours to really highlight the evilness of this bass.
Wait, I take that back, this is a Satin Black, might be the same finish (more expensive version) as the one I have. I will post the pick of the matte black at the end, and the extra contours on the ones available 2020-2021
The cool thing about the Essex Recording Studio’s Reverb Shop, (and YouTube channel) they do videos of all the instruments they post for sale.
Unfortunately, they are not playing demo’s.
I guess when you are talking about a celebrity’s ACTUAL signature model that they play and toured with, OR the ones to introduce the Signature bass at NAMM (like this one), or just a celebrity bass that was toured, or on studio recordings, (some go for like $74,000) I guess you don’t have to see it played to want it.
The Video
The Matte Black current model.
And Mine, the older body and color. I like mine, but the newer ones are SICK
Looking side by side (or over / under), I see that mine is the same body style as the REAL one, so they are probably from the same era.
I still think the new one is a whole lot cooler, and thats saying alot, cuz I think the older one is cool AF.
SLAYER!!!
Looks gorgeous T! I like the old and new one. Big fan of LTD guitars (and Slayer) too.
I love these basses, they are just so evil looking without trying too hard. They kind of remind me of Warwick Buzzards in a way. Congrats on yours. I may get one myself, not too sure on my next purchase though.
Assuming this link works for all of you like it did me and brings up some of the craziest basses I have ever seen…
Wow no kidding, it’s insane what some people’s craftsmanship can come up with.
Some guitars look to be a shame to play on because it looks like an art piece from a museum that should only be looked at with the naked eye, not through your camera lens let alone pick up to play it.
Just had to share this cool pic @T_dub. The man himself holding your bass!
Love it
SBV800-MF up for just under $2k.

Really rare. First sentence of the ad mentions Miki Furukawa famously playing one; she’s the bass player for Supercar that I posted playing a SBV-550 before. Not sure if this is a limited edition signature model for her or not but the initials imply it.
Edit - yep, it is.
(original '60s SB-7A in that vid but YouTube keeps copyright-slamming my favorite vids of these guys )
Kicking myself a bit for passing up that 550 a while back. Felt absolutely great.
Haven’t seen this one before, looks great. A little Rickenbacker-ish but an even cooler shape
The SBV’s? yeah super cool, unique, rare. @terb has a SBV-500. I almost bought a SBV-550 a while back. Should have
A few Japanese bassists famously collect them; Miki (as I just mentioned there), and Fumi from Polysics are the two I know best.
Interesting history. These are actually reissues of the originals from the '60s-'70s; the reissues were made from about the '90s to early 2000s.
Fumi rocking one of hers:
Love those guys too, so DEVO.
So basically this is your dream bass?
One of them, yeah. Just a cool, unique design, and they feel and sound great
It turns out the SBV-550 I almost bought is still for sale. Its price isn’t super competitive and I don’t have another grand to frop on a bass right now, but good to know it’s still there. They do come up occasionally.
Again, I am glad I don’t live in Japan…I would have a serious bass collection / problem.
It’s an everpresent temptation yeah
