I don’t actually own this bass yet but I wanna get it and it looks pretty good. It’s a Vintage V4 Reissued in a beautiful Bayview Blue finish. My favourite thing about it is the matching headstock. You don’t find those very often on basses at this price point (this sells for around £300 btw).
I own the same bass (in classic sunburst though). It’s a decent beginner bass. The tone potentiometer crapped out on me after a year or so, and I exchanged the “electronics” with a kit from Obsidian Wire Vintage Precision Bass® Wiring Harness | Solder-less Install (obsidianwire.com)
Makes for a more punchy sound also
Very nice color.
Sterling (SBMM) has an older model Ray34 that is similar, it is a burst of blue with matching headstock. Also very awesome looking, but not in that price range. More like 3x that price.
I think that one would look GREAT with a maple fretboard if there was a choice.
This LTD is only $200 (case not included) near me.
Seems like a really good deal.
I think it is a ESP Ltd AX-404. Active with 3-band preamp.
EMG pickups, can’t find what they retailed for to start with
@T_dub will be able to tell you more @John_E but I’ve got to confess I would be getting myself into more trouble with my better half and snapping that up at $200.
Pickups alone are probably worth half that.
Would be hard not to buy that. The case is likely worth half that.
I did it again and I don’t regret it. I went to see a '92 Epiphone Accu Bass and it might be a very basic bass for 1992 but for present standards for inexpensive basses it’s incredibly built. The electronics and pickup were shot but I got it for USD $60. Neck and body are in great condition. I took out the electronics/pickup from my Squier Mini Bass and put them in. I also cleaned and shielded it with copper tape and set it up. It rocks! I really like the vintage look and sound as well as the batwing headstock. After all people used to tell me I look like a vampire. Here are a few pics…
Oh I like that
great find, hard to pass at $60. I would have even bought it for that, and I don’t have any spare money to do so with at the moment.
I love sunburst finishes.
I certainly have a bad conscience but it is very hard to find used gear here for accesible prices and in good condition. I don’t mind having put the Mini Bass temporarily out of business until I can afford electronics and a pickup. I looked into it and for additional $80 I can put a prewired kit with Fender p-bass pickups (MIM) and CTS Pots and knobs in it. That would allow me to put the Mini Bass back together and sell it to clear my conscience. Perhaps even to buy flat wounds for the Epiphone… Cheers.
@T_dub - orange!
The magic of Krylon!
I think it looks really good. I wish he did the headstock too.
Yeah it turned out great.
Krylon is good paint for stuff like this.
Yeah, that is great. If only I had $400
Interesting they went with minwax for the clear coat. I’ve only ever done plastic and metal but I’d probably have stuck with Krylon or another spray clearcoat, at least for the first coats.
Maybe minwax is better with wood? Dunno.
Is it me, or is there something very wrong with the string alignment?
He mentions in the add that the neck is misaligned but never been a problem (for him I guess), but yes, sure is!
