Bass Porn

Guilty pleasure time here. I love this bass, and I sometimes just stare at pictures of it for a while. There’s just something about it that’s… sooo cool. I mean, it’s almost cool enough to look at it and say “très cool” in a pretentiously outrageous French accent.

A 2004 Ibanez Iceman. Noice.

Also, I’ve mentioned that I’ve had a life-long crush on Carvin basses. Here are some of the reasons why:

That quilted maple always got me. The picture doesn’t do it justice, but in person? Man… so bass porn.

Don’t think I haven’t thought about it. But since starting BB, I finally got myself a Carvin (LB20), an upgrade to my Ibanez SR300 (SR500EPB) and I have a Carvin B4 in shipping to me right now.

If I think of buying another bass, my S.O. (read: the household CFO) is going to incite violence on my person. I can only push her so far.

LOL.

You need a master class in how to sneak instruments into your house. It’s an art form in itself.

Yeah been eyeing that one too. I think Lobster said it has a split coil, haven’t confirmed that yet.

The SBV-800MF is still up for sale here. They dropped the price to $1600USD or so.

Definitely awesome but not really an upgrade for me - the only differences between it and my 550 are the black hardware and pickups, and fretboard binding. Mostly that price because they only made 50. Plus you might get Miki Furukawa’s signature? Not sure. Still not worth doubling the price to me but this would be a cool, unobtanium-level snag for a collector.

My SBV-550 for comparison:

Same color even

Ahh cool! Greco made a viola bass too, that actually looks nicer than the originals to me. Or at least nicer than the Epiphones and Ignitions, not sure about MIG Hofners.

That one’s a 1986. It looks like they did something nice with the bridge to make it easier to intonate.
