Bass Soul Food Overdrive

Thanx @howard, that was the first thing I tried. I almost think it got worse after that :face_with_monocle:

The only contact cleaner I could find locally was the WD-40 brand, which I had never used before, but I figured I’d give it a shot.

I blasted the inside of the blend pot and turned the knob back and forth about 20 times, then did it again.

I was really surprised at the difference in the feel of the knob after I was done. It turned MUCH easier than the others. So I made the decision to clean those too while I had it apart. Now they all turn with the same resistance, but don’t feel sloppy. I let it dry a little just to be safe, then brought it back and hooked it up in test mode.

I ran it like this for about 3 days and probably around 4 hours total. So far so good, so I buttoned it up and returned it to it’s place on the board. It has been a little over a week now and the the pedal is still working as expected.

The only problem I’ve had with it since was this afternoon when I was playing a bit on my lunch with the volume on the 300 watt Peavey WAY up around 8 :smiling_imp:, and I experienced my first loud POP when I engaged the pedal. Which scared the crap out of me because i wasn’t expecting it. I suppose I could open it up again and clean the button too, but I’m not sure if that will help?

I do really like the pedals tone, and I can get quite a bit of good sounds out of it, so I think I will probably keep it. I do not believe for a second that it was actually NEW like advertised, as it didn’t come with the EHX special battery that they all come with.

However it does now have a new slightly larger neighbor next to it now, and I’ve been spending a little more time with it than the Soul Food. But I like having them both for now.
