I’m looking for a recommendation for a bass tab book for beginners. I’d like the book to cover the type of music I’m interested in playing: reggae, disco/funk and some of the 70s/80s rock (Led Zep, etc.) --although I’m really open to just about anything, as I have eclectic tastes. TYIA.
Check out Songsterr on the web. Some dislike it, but I’ve found it to be good enough for jumping in and playing a lot of songs I like.
Have you looked at the 100 First Songs included with Beginner to BadAss?
Rather than look for a book, another approach is simply to think of songs you like, then google tabs for that song. You’ll likely find that tabs exist for most of the songs you look for. There is a surprising amount on YouTube.
Obviously, there’s the usual health warning that tabs might not be correct, but they will get you going.
Books are not in vogue. Try Songsterr or Ultimate Guitar for tabs and an app for your phone, the advantage is you can play the phone through the amp and play along.
Or YouTube university. Lots of bass tabs on YT
Bass in hand and fingers on the strings is the most productive things you can do, (period).
Songsterr is the best resource I know and use daily.
If you as quickly as possible get to the place where you see the tab and your finger goes to the proper fret without much or any thought then you’ve got it going on…
Only through hands on actions will you get better in the beginning.
Eyes to brain to fingers recognition time only gets better through doing.
Get your first 500 hours asap.
Enjoy doing.
I loaded this into songsterr the other day, It’s a great tune however, some Bob Marley songs are easier.
Thanks so much for the replies, everyone. Much here to think about!
