bass volume

Hello, I am new to bass guitar, I am currently using Sqiuier Affinity PJ and Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen 3 as the interface. The bass level is very low and the tone sounds muffled. I researched but couldn’t find the solution. I leave an example here. Can you help me? Thanks

Is the INST button activated? This is important, as it boosts the signal.
Then you should dial in the gain knob just so you don’t get any clipping. If it goes into the yellow when you plug harder, it’s fine.

What you describe as muffled might also be the bland sound you get without any amp sim.

This might be simple, but make sure the tone knob on your bass is turned up.

Do you have an amp you can plug your bass into? If so, does it sound different (better) then?

A couple of things you can check:

  • Are you sure your volume and (like @eric.kiser said) tone knobs are dialed all the way up?
  • What is the distance between the strings and the pickups? Greater distance means lower volume.
  • How old are the strings? Old(er) strings lose some of their clarity.
  • As @Malyngo said, make sure the Gain knob for the instrument connection is dialed up sufficiently, and that the INST button is enabled. If you turn up the Gain too high, you may experience some clipping, which means your bass will sound distorted. In that case, turn it down again a bit. The color of the ring around the Gain button should not turn red.

Sounds like your gain is cranked up. I am not sure how the gain and output volume is setup on the gen3, but on my gen4 I am able keep the gain lower and crank up the output if needed. I keep my gain around 10 o clock. @Malyngo suggestion to watch the color levels is a good way to see if your going into the red (aka muffled gross sounding) Good luck!
