Josh was kind enough to give myself and @Megatronpt permission to spruce the place up a bit so if you’d like more informal place to chit chat please come and join us.
We have a mix of basic chat channels and the newer forum style channels setup for posting gear reviews and videos.
So come and check us out, or come back and check out the changes, let us know what you love/hate/would like to see added and lets make the discord hop as much as the forums, would love to see them work as side by side communities.
We’d also love your discord server boosts. Especially so I can make more Josh bass face stickers, lol!
Why is it felt that Bass Buzz needs another community?
I am not interested in joining another community. I am happy with the way things are at Bass Buzz. Chit Chat Topics are identified as such. I can choose to chit chat or pass over the topic.
The Discord server has been around since 2021 so it’s not new. By chit chat I meant the chat room style of conversations and not having to post a new thread just to ask a quick question or say something.
It’s a lot more fluid and on the go and some people prefer that. I’ll drop a link or a picture in our ‘bass general chat’ of something neat that I wouldn’t go to the effort of making a proper post for in the forums. Random comments in off topic have started some great conversations. It’s just a different feel.
If you don’t want to join that’s absolutely fine some people prefer forums, some people prefer chat rooms, it’s providing an alternative format is all.
I don’t see it as a black and white post this stuff here and post that stuff there concept. Discord is primarily a chat room format and that’s where it excels. Drop in, hang out, complain about work while you relax with a drink in the evening and noodle on your bass.
Some people find the more rigid structure of forums a turn off so we wanted to provide some of the organization of the forums in the discord for those that prefer to hang out there exclusively, that’s why we requested for Josh to let us reorganize things a bit.
Its not another community … same people just a different means of communicating… discord is more in line with real time chat, voice chat options, some better media handling etc. Having a discord is a cool option. Not trying to change your mind or anything… just explaining a bit why discords are used in conjuction with forums
I did not know there is a Discord server. But now I’m on it. As for the difference between forums and Discord, I’m glad to see both and prefer to use them differently. Discord is great for real-time, instant message type group chats. Forums are typically better for the types of conversations you might want to find later, or via a search engine. There’s definitely a gray area where the two overlap.
Maybe I’m “old school”, at least in Internet age, but in my opinion forums work best for things that are asymmetrical or more durable in nature. Like getting help with some technical problem or posting a review of a piece of gear. Once that content is in the forum, it can be indexed, resurfaced by someone else with a similar question or problem, and expanded on long after the OP first started the thread.
On the other hand, Discord can be quite difficult to search for old posts, so I don’t think it works as well as a repository of information. The newer threaded conversations feature brings some forum-like organization, but I still don’t think Discord posts are easily indexed by (non-Discord) search, so it can be hard to find old topics relevant to a current question.
Different tools for different uses, in my opinion.
Discord is awesome. I’m glad to see an effort to do more with the community server there. I’ll be sure to check it out, as I’m on Discord all the time.
Hey all, haven’t been on the discord channel for a few days. I got a TOS/account suspension email today. I was wondering if I got hacked. I don’t think I posted anything that would qualify as a problem. BassBuzz is the only discord channel I have used. I haven’t been on the channel for a day or two. Let me know if you have seen anything weird. Thanks!
Thanks, it’s strange. The only stuff Ive posted on there is the stuff on the bass buzz server. I put in an appeal. But still wondering what happened with it. At the end of the day, I’m not going to expend a lot of effort getting the account back but it is a little frustrating.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about the 1password thing, that site has long been the best resource for checking for pwnage and was in fact started by a Microsoft director as his side project.
