Best fitting gigbag for Ibanez EHB 1000S

Hi guys,

just got my 2021 EHB 1000S (short scale version, 4 strings, standard 30” fretboard) with the standarad Ibanez gigbag.

I will use ist in travel and was wondering if a smaller gigbag might exist that also has more security though thicker cushions. The original gigbag has 2 inches of air obove the headless head. What a waste

I am open for suggestions and located in the EU. Thank you.

PS: The gigbag should also fit an EHB 1505S which is the new 30” standard fretboard five string version.

I just did a quick check with my EHB1000S and a Yamaha Revstar guitar gig bag. Didn’t quite fit. The top horn was too wide for the bag. It may fit in one of the Gator guitar gig bags if it’s wide enough. A lot of the Gator bags have a removable pad at the bottom that you might have to take out of a guitar bag. It should be easy enough to measure the total length of the EHB and compare it to the internal measurement of a guitar bag.

Most I found so far had an internal length of 107 cm, while the Ibanez is only 97cm.

The horn on left side seems to be the deal breaker because the body is just too wide. Found a nice Boss Guitar Gigbag but the intentioned body form was just off.

There is a pro series Ibanez (grey and charcoal) for bass (IBB724) and this guitar (IBG 724) which also could be fitting but also has 107 cm length.

I use the Gator Pro-Go guitar gig bag for my EHB1265 and it fits great. It’s kind of expensive but worth it if you’re regularly gigging.

I use this bag

For my EHB1505S there’s a couple inches at the top. my EHBMS1005S has lots of room at the top but fit nicely inside. Sweetwater conveniently has the dimensions of the bags in the description - upper bout, lower bout, interior so it makes it easier to find a bag that fits. Once you know, you can buy anywhere.

Ugly color but really like this bag.

What about a bag for a Strandberg?

Sure they have similar dimensions. But where to buy? The strandberg page only features guitar bags.

side tangent but this is another thing I love about the BB734a and Revstar Standard. The Yamaha premium gig bag is super good.

I use the Mono Bass gig bag and it’s held every bass I’ve had/have (not at the same time :upside_down_face: ). Fender Jazzes, P’s EBMM, Sandbergs and Schecters. Plenty of storage for cables, small tool kit, pedals, etc

It won’t fit. You saw that bag last Sunday.

@17REHTUL the best bag and most practical one is the one that came with your Ibanez. I have the 1506 EHB. It’s the best fit without any compromising.

you are basically asking for another option with one inch shorter than OEM, because it doesn’t make sense to have a snug fit gigbag. That said if the quest for another bag/ case that would fit the EHB then there are several I can think off but none will be smaller. I like Mono case but they are not small or cheap.

Well that’s what I figured but still would not give up on the matter. I own a Framus Diablo Pro which has pretty much the same dimensions as the EHB 1000S. Only the body, especially the left side horn differs.

Sind I almost exclusively own subpar gigbags with no padding, including the Ibanez EHB one which at least has a strap for the neck, I would like to upgrade.

I am hauling my stuff around in a cargo bike or folding bike (niche flexible rear carrier called Red Rebane Easy Exo) or am on my way around Europe by train. Therefore 2 inches/6cm and a non fitting bag is kind of a bummer.

I looked a little bit on the internet and found some info on Talkbass (yes, i know… :person_shrugging:):
https://www.talkbass.com/threads/gate-checkable-gig-bag-for-ibanez-ehb1505-headless.1564014/

The model that came out on top (Contego Protec CTG234) seems to be discontinued, but maybe the follow-up model will fit as well:

If you want to be sure and if you plan to order via Thomann, just contact them and ask for advice.

Thank you for the hint. At the end a user also speaks also about the Ibanez IGB724 fitting its 1005SMS which is the short multi scale 5 string version which is a tiny bit longer.

Will look into it.

So total length actually seems to be just 92cm-ish (head to strap).

Broadest part of the body is 32-33cm-ish

But the left horn has a total of about 53cm. The right side is about 32cm.

The “head” has a width of 6cm, just as the 12th fret with 5,8cm.

Buy the way: weren’t there cases that cut to fit a custom shape?

Yeah, I was thinking a Strandberg bass, though. But evidently the problem is they don’t sell them separate, so there’s that.

That won’t help @17REHTUL because there’s no Borden short scale. I had 2 Borden in my shed for a month wanting to love it so much but it didn’t work out. The guitar bag is the only thing that would possibly work for OP.

Time to make good use of the Thomann Return Policy
