Buy that 5 stringer

All the reason to go buy a 5 or 6 stringer…or an excuse…lol

Me, I’ll stick to four strings for the foreseeable future. But for those so inclined Squier’s got a six string J Bass for under $400!

Squier Affinity Series® Jazz Bass® VI

Those are interesting. The Bass VI is more of a hybrid between a short-scale bass and a baritone guitar; it’s kind of its own thing. It’s tuned exactly like a 6-string guitar (EADGBE) instead of like a 6-string bass (BEADGC), one octave lower than a normal 6-string guitar. This makes it different than either a bass, a normal guitar, or a baritone guitar.

Sure you’re thinking of the same instrument?

I think you’re commenting on this one(?) Classic Vibe Bass VI

Ahh interesting, I was indeed thinking of a normal Bass VI. So Fender is confusing things up and introducing a new model called a Bass VI that is different? Cool

I think one of us B2Bers ordered one of these by accident, trying to get a real bass vi. @Paul_9207 I believe.

I think I’m going to pick up that Gretsch baritone. It’s 30" scale and I can put strings up to .90 on without having to file anything. I can use that to learn on and either sell it back when I get my ultracure vi or keep it and tune it back to B-B.

yep, that was me. The Squier Affinity Bass VI is a 6 string bass, the Squier CV bass VI is a real bass VI

Yeah the Squier jazz bass VI is pretty good. I paid less than $300 for it shipped. It’s surprisingly well made and sounds pretty good. Extra points for making it a 6 bolt neck for extra stability too.

Question I’ve been meaning to ask about the Bass VI: What do you string it with? Is it normal guitar strings, thicker gauge guitar strings or are they special Bass VI strings or something else?

They’re more or less short scale bass strings with the 2 higher strings.
