I listen to a lot of Cake and always really dig their bass lines. I’d love to learn more of their songs. Especially Never There and Thrills, if anyone has correct sheet music or tabs. And tell me your (meaning everyone, not just Josh) favorite Cake songs.

Cake is one of my all times - I listen to them literally every day. Never There should be pretty playable if you’re still going through the course. I’ve learned Arco Arena, It’s Coming Down, Opera Singer, Love You Madly, Shadow Stabbing, Long Line of Cars & Satan is My Motor. I’m pretty sure I’ve written tabs for all of them, happy to send them to you if you’d like!

“Jolene” is one of my absolute favorite songs period. Never found good tab for it, but it did inspire me to double down on ear training so I won’t need tab. Not quite there yet tho!

Stick shifts and safety belts is hard to beat, but I will survive is my favorite.
Many years ago, there was a free event on Thursday evenings in downtown Nashville. I believe it was called Dancing in the district.
They had a huge stage/barge on the Cumberland river. I saw Cake there one time and on the other side of the river was a large recycling area.
As Cake was playing, the recycling place caught fire and burnt down. It was pretty surreal.

I love Never There, The Distance (college nostalgia), and Comfort Eagle. I also love that the TV show Chuck uses Short Skirt/Long Jacket!
I also worked at American Eagle for a bit during college and Love You Madly and Short Skirt/Long Jacket were on the Muzak playlist for Christmas and it made me happy.

when I started my bass journey I discovered that Cake’s song, I Will Survive, was my magnum opus. If I could play that without error I’ve made it.
I am about 60% there. I leave it and come back to it on occasion but some day I’ll be posting that elusive cover here.
