I was wondering if I can use regular guitar straps on a short scale bass. Guitar straps tend to be cheaper and way easier to find and bass straps almost never have any designs on them.

The size of the strap is dependent on your comfort and the weight of the bass, and how much neck dive. I have short scale basses with 2" straps, and others with 4".

Hi,
I use a guitar strap with a fun design and I fixed a Kliq AirCell pad on it to get the cushioning the bass requires. The scale isn’t important; the weight of your bass depends mostly on the body. My 30 inches Gretsch is heavier than my 32 inches Jaguar for instance.

Bass requires no more or less cushioning than a guitar. Your shoulder might want more padding for the extra weight, or, not. Width of strap is not the important part, comfort is. I have narrow straps that are more comfy than wide, same with I padded /padded. It’s all about comfort and that varies by design.
