About as much as a Chapman stick could be called a bass, I guess:

There are so many different instruments with strings in the different musical cultures, and the bass (guitar) is but one of them.

there’s an excellent middle eastern restaurant by us and every time we go there I drive my wife nuts shazaming every song they play. that whole Hindi/middle eastern/arabic sound is like candy to me, especially the modern stuff.
