Carol Kaye rejects Rock & Roll HOF induction

Outcast fans have been calling for their induction since 2018 but I don’t really get the desire for it. RNR hall of fame inducts people who have had a significant influence on rnr and i know there are some big names in other genres that are there but I don’t really see why people care.

As a very long time listener of hiphop/rap, the last thing i care about is the rnr hall of fame… actually I don’t care about them as a listener of rock either

You don’t see why people care about OutKast getting inducted, or you don’t see why people care about other genres being in the hall of fame?

I don’t get why people are upset that the HOF has acts outside of rock are in, I mean music cross pollinates - a lot.

What gets me is how little attention is given to rock - metal especially is ignored. It’s those exclusions. I mean, Dio is not in? Slayer? That’s what makes the hall a joke in my book.

It is streamed on Disney these days and maybe Raining Blood doesn’t fit the demographic.

Exactly.

It’s a paradoxical mystery why some get so bent that band/artist “whoever” received one while another didn’t if, as has been stated multiple times, the whole thing is a scam/con/fix. But folks are gonna folk. :man_shrugging:

The format is a fixed number of entrants per category (Performers, Early Influences, Musical Excellence, and Lifetime Achievement) per year. If you add artists from more genres it’s zero sum with Dio or Joy Division or Iron Maiden etc not getting in.

I think the hall of fame wants to be popular music not rock and roll and should change their name.

I expect that some people just need validation for their choices. It like people who start GOAT threads… It’s a nonsensical idea and it doesn’t matter.

Andre 3000 is one of my favourite artists but he’s moved on from outcast… which makes me sad because I loved the stuff he did with the group but I’m happy for him that’s he’s exploring music and doing new things.

But that’s me, I don’t get personally invested in other people’s work. I don’t even get personally invested in my professional work :slightly_smiling_face:

This is a good point. I guess I wouldn’t say I am mad that, for example, Joy Division got passed over; more of like “yep, there’s another data point.”

Is the RRHOF more of a symbolic thing or more of a good ole boy network similar to The Grand Ole Opry? Genuinely curious.

To some, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has at least some semblance of a rhyme, reason and/or relevance. To others, it doesn’t. I have personally only seen brief snippets of any of its broadcasts. The vast majority of it doesn’t mean a thing to me.

Similarly, I have no clue about the Grand Ole Opry or what goes on with it, in it, or around it. It’s outside of my realm of interest or experience.

Yes it is, who is the loudest! Truly sad where the industry is taking us. Don’t get me start on AutoTune,
