interesting:
All the more reason to love Carol. Humble, true team player and all around good dudette.
Giving prizes for music is pointless IMHO.
An award is a symbolic acknowledgement of merit, usually by peers.
Awards emphasize recognition and honor bestowed by others, while prizes often include monetary or other compensation of value.
Interchangeable terms @MikeC and still pointless.
Who ran the fastest 100m at the last Olympics? Clearly there is one winner.
Who made the best album last year? Ridiculous question.
Awards/Prizes for music? Nah.
Completely agree, the HOF is pointless and has never mattered. Various artists have expressed similar sentiment for decades so Carol is not new here.
Music is not a contest.
I personally couldn’t care less about the R&R Hall of Fame, one way or the other.
Same here, but I’d be all over a R&R Hall of Shame, R&R’s version of the annual Raspberry Awards for cinematic failures.
or the Hall of Lame
I totally agree. Unfortunately there are music competitions all over the place, and the more casting shows we have the more everybody thinks they are experts and allowed to judge everybody who is brave enough to put themselves out there.
Apparently there’s disputes about Kaye’s objections. Just drama, I’d rather listen to her songs than try and figure out who’s right. Which I care little about
I don’t care at all either; the less I know about musicians, the better.
A lot of people think the RRHOF is a joke anyway. How do they wait until the members of Bad Company are dead or almost dead to vote them in, but Outkast gets in the same year? Not to mention asking whether Oukast is even rock and roll, and if non-rock and roll artists should be inducted into the RRHOF. I wouldn’t be surprised if Carol didn’t deem it no honor at all to be recognized by a group that lately wouldn’t recognize rock and roll if it was being blasted in their face inches from a wall of Marshall stacks.
I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with you a bit here. Rock n’ Roll and R&B are connected at the hip going back to the 50s. Given Carol’s history and the songs she played on, I highly doubt her issues with the HOF are because Outkast got in.
Totally agree sir!
Ranking art is disrespectful to art, and is part of the business of art, not the art itself.
How much money do they give for the Nobel Peace Prize then?
No idea.
Address any concerns with terminology regarding what they do and what they call it with the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Note: English is not the committee’s native language.
I believe there is an honorarium but yeah, negligible compared to the prize itself.
edit: yep about $1M. Nice cash but still small potatoes compared to the honors.
I wasn’t necessarily saying Outkast shouldn’t get in, only that maybe there is a debate there whether hip-hop is rock and roll. I get the relationship between R&B and Hip-Hop and rock and roll, so that isn’t even a hill I would die on, but it is a subject of debate. I was more making the point of why is Outkast getting in now, while rock legends like Bad Company had to wait so long? That kind of thing is what has many of us questioning the powers that be in the RRHOF.
Joy Division still isn’t in.
Yeah they were up this time too. More evidence it’s a hall of bullshit
