Combatting GAS with mixing (and succeeding!)

Hi,
So recently I was considering buying a second instrument (guitar) to compliment my bass, I’ve been doing lots of research of what would be a good combo and I’ve been split between several models (some half-hollows with piezo, 12 strings and a baritone guitar).

But then I realized that I could just get a dirt cheap Capo, put it on the 12th fret and play chords because my bass has a whooping 30 frets so it’s almost two instruments in one.

I just came back from shop, equipped with a Capo and a hard pick, then I did some quick mixing and came out with this: Stream FretlessDiablo2 by Robert Barc | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
Original thing I was aiming for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XheJnmLAwhk&list=RDXheJnmLAwhk

Now I have another ballpark of sounds at my disposal (which is not perfect but good enough for my purposes) and I saved myself a lot of money. All it took was small gadget for 15$ and some free plugins.

Do you guys have any stories of defeating GAS with free software/other tricks?

Truly complimenting your bass is to play it well.

Bass love is best appreciated as a hands on experience.

Gas = don’t fight the feeling, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Get really good… Bank those hours. :jbass: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

Please post some picks of your bass.

Well, it’s really hard to compose an entire soundtrack with only bass, even if it’s the lead instrument in the mix

Here’s one from back when I got eBow for it, that cheap strap was an injustice though - already replaced it.

Edit: it’s either 30 frets or 0 frets, depending how you look at it
