I’ve been trying to get my slap and pop faster recently but I feel like my pops are slowing me down. When I see other people pop their index finger stays rigid and close to the strings but my fingers have to extend to get to the string and when I pop they get extended. Is that slowing me down? If so, how can I fix it? Here’s what my slap looks like right now: https://youtu.be/oG-KFQHPZpI?si=4ogOIiwSgmL2iVdN
Hi there!
It’s great how much attention to detail you have here! Great to include a video, too!
My advice would be to isolate the popping from the slapping. After a slap, the hand/thumb bounces and may lose position.
As a slap beginner, I find that reaching with your pop-finger is normal after the thumb bounces off.
The remedy is to really settle the hand before you attempt to pop. Later, the popping motion is the bouncing off motion.
Hope this helps!

I thought I had the teeter-totter down but I definitely do not! Always comes back to the basics lol. Thank you
Hello!!!
Two things stand out to me:
First: it looks like you’re pulling your right hand too far away after hitting with the thumb. So maybe start by just hammering the thumb over and over and try to keep it closer to the strings.
Second: it also seems like you’re moving your wrist outward instead of rotating it.
Try focusing more on a wrist rotation movement.
Overall, keeping your right hand closer to the strings could really help!!!
