Cool, i need to get back.
I still haven’t done the last few modules, I got caught up learning songs for the jam group
Now I have to pick a bass to retake the course with (and stick with that bass).
EHB, Mustang, Rascal, or Offbeat
I think we need a family photo to give the best advice on this.
I am loving this revamp!
My daughter who liked the other version, is loving this one. She nearly finished M1… alone and without my supervision!
Soon I lose my PC and my bass and will blame @JoshFossgreen for it!
Just noticed I’m missing a couple achievements and that went straight to my gamer dopamine junkie brain
I on the other hand, don’t care about achievements. Maybe if they were integrated with a Pez dispenser and I got a pez every time i got an achievement. That’s the ticket
I am very excited about the upgrade - new lessons!! 100 songs, new Hairdo - looks awesome!!
One thing though - I was in the middle of the third slap lesson: Module 13, Lesson 3 and now I can’t find it. Any ideas?
Yes this is exactly how dopamine works must get all cheevos
I finished last week and was doing some other stuff before starting my re-do of the course.
Look at all those new songs!!
The slap lessons got moved to the “Masterclass” section, after the main course.
I just redid the first 2 lessons… Wow! This is a massive upgrade. Thank you @JoshFossgreen and staff! I am going to keep going with the reset. In just the 3rd lesson, you said some things about plucking that you hadn’t said before, and I feel like it was an instant improvement in my plucking technique. That was the moment I knew I would redo the whole thing.
Some of my favorite upgrades;
- New graphics! I dig the new fret graphics, and can’t wait to see how tabs have changed. I used to find it frustrating when you would call out “now the 3rd fret on the G string, now the 5th fret on the D string” at the start of a lesson with no graphical assistance. Solved!
- Production values and delivery are much improved! They were fine before, but for example Josh would pause every few sentences and audibly swallow saliva. I was always swallowing in sympathy when that happened. That’s gone. He’s talking faster and also more clearly. Like a professional video teacher guy. I love it!
- And my absolute favorite upgrade… the timer line at the bottom of the exercises when you are giving tips in between reps. Ahhh! This solves a problem I never bothered mentioning. If I mess something up, I go back and try again during the same workout, sometimes multiple times. But it was difficult to find the right spot to jump back to because of the tips. Sometimes I would have to note the time when a rep started for later use. Solved, and solved elegantly!
I couldn’t be happier with this upgrade. Really blown away! Thank you!
Looks like I’ll have to finish then restart with the fretless, then restart with the Bass VI
I don’t think the quest completionist in me is strong enough to get through the slap module. I’ve tried twice and failed.
This sounds like a fantastic idea. I did a run through with fingers the first time, pick the second time. A third time on a VI might be worthwhile.
I thought I was the last one to figure out the course had been revamped.
Every technique requires the driving desire to learn it. Plucking, playing with a pick, chugging, etc. are the cornerstones of most iconic songs. Slapping is integral to many tunes as well, but not to the same degree or number than the others.
The thing about slapping is that it requires a lot of passion and dedication to learn and nominally master the technique well. Josh had it from the time he was a kid. So did Mark Smith of Talking Bass. And Marcus Miller. They really, really wanted to own it, so they worked their asses off.
Personally, while I marvel from afar at the skill of slapping stars, the technique itself is neither natural to me nor of much interest to learn. It just doesn’t place highly in the various techniques I care to play.
So umm… @JoshFossgreen - How’s that headphone jack working for you?
Seriously though, fab upgrade.
Now… about those t-shirts…
Well said, and I completely agree. I just don’t have any passion to learn it. I don’t listen to a lot of music that requires it (oddly enough, Skinny Puppy uses slap here and there) and any band I get into likely wouldn’t require it. It’s a bad combination
Yep, it just is what it is. Some techniques beckon while others just don’t.
I admire Josh, Gio and Mark for their impressive skills. I strive to own most of them. Just not all.
