Hi, I’m in a worship band and have difficulty finding bass tabs. They don’t always appear in Ultimate guitar etc. So what’s the easiest way to turn sheet music with the bass stave into tabs.
The auto correct betrayed you,
Guitar pro 8 is pretty easy to use but you have to buy it, not a free app. I like it. On the computer you can also upload the actual audio track which is convenient.
In the scenario where music is provided in standard notation for gigs what’s stopping you from learning that?
I corrected the title, but had to leave an homage to that very excellent autocorrect.
Can you post a photo of the music you get from the band here?
I’m curious what the best approach would be.
I would guess that the reading music on the music you’re getting wouldn’t be that helpful, as it will most likely be a choral or piano line.
I’m hoping there are chords written in that you can follow, as reading a chord chart is maybe the best skill you could learn.
Otherwise, for tabs, I don’t know what can do it well.
I’ve never tried to use my scoring program (Sibelius) for that, but I think it can do it.
The issue I have is that when a program spits out tabs from notation, it doesn’t do it the way a bassist would, and sometimes the tabs are real, real weird.
If I understand correctly… TuxGuitar might be enough… and it’s free.
Ignore the notes… just example… but you can transcribe in notation form and it will give you the tabs at the bottom… then you can just export.
Is it something like this?
I use the free PowerTab software but you do have to create the tabs manually. However it’s not bad practice for learning standard notation!!!
I looked at Tux Guitar but the absence of Capo, DS al Segno etc. put me off.
So I’ve been using MuseScore (which is free and open source) and it will pretty much seamlessly convert sheet music into tabs, though obviously you will need to enter the sheet music in the first place and may want to adjust where some of the notes are played.
Thanks guys you’ve all given me some great ideas. I’ll look into your suggestions whilst on holiday this week. Cheers Wobby.
I print out the songs in a word document. 1.5 space the lines so you have some room to write above the lines. I play the song and try to find the notes on the fret board then just write in the tab above the appropriate spot on the line where the change occurs. Let me know if you need me to send you an example of that this looks like.
