CV 70s Jazz Bass - Pickups

Hello all - sorry noob question here re the knobs on my Squier CV 70s Jazz Bass. When I turn the bridge pickup knob all the way down (see first picture), I can’t hear any difference but when I turn down the neck pickup all the way down I can hear a little difference (see second picture). Is this because I need to adjust the tone knob as well or are they just a bit rubbish?

Thanks a lot!

It’s hard to say for sure without hearing it. Perhaps your amp is contributing or maybe it’s the volume you’re at?

In any case, at least on my Jazz, the tone knob effect is more noticeable on the higher strings but still adds an edge to the lower notes. The bridge pickup is brighter than the neck pickup in general so that’s part of it. Try all the combinations and see what you find, individual pickups fully up and down then together while you adjust the tone… or since we’re talking brightness how old are your strings?

BTW, excellent user name, how’s that heart full of napalm?

Turn your neck pickup off, then try your bridge pickup alone. you should hear the difference. the neck pickup usually are stronger. Some of us use the bridge pickup to tune the brightness without the tone knob. As the matter of fact 3 of my basses with Jazz bridge pickups don’t have tone knobs and that’s how I use the bridge pickup for.

Thanks @blair . I have noticed it on my Spark Neo wireless headphones so will try it on my Fender Rumble 40 tomorrow and report back to see if I am having the same issue.

Glad you like the name! A top tune that is!

Thanks @Al1885 . I will give through it a little more “scientifically” tomorrow and see how it is in my Rumble 40.

I have tried with the Rumble 40 and the difference can be heard quite a bit more. Maybe it is the spark neo which doesn’t have the same whatever the term is as the Rumble? Although, am I right that the difference is not massive like, for example, on a Strat?

Thanks
