That’s a really cool demo!
I’d give the edge to the Infinity in isolation but the ADAM is incredible in the context of the mix.

One of my favorite bass youtubers.

I love the Microtubes line but wow the A/O Φoton…

I think the Infinity sounded best soloed (by a lot) but the Photon sounded best in the mix. The Adam sounded better than the Photon soloed but worse than both others in the mix. To me anyway. Which goes to show that solo tone isn’t all that

edit: hmm maybe actually the Adam was worse than the Photon in all cases, nevermind. I think the reason the A-O beat the infinity in the mix for me is the Microtubes has its characteristic tubey compressed scoop thing going and the A-O simply is stronger in the mids.

I would be happy with either

For sure, they are all great options! Think my taste for overdrive/distortion changed over the years as well.

Kudos for Erik and this demo.

Agreed, it’s amongst the best I’ve seen on youtube.
I saw that Darkglass tagged the video on their Instagram feed today.

This tracks. I really liked the A-O distortion on the Element I had. And right now on my DarkPre patch on the B6 I have boosted the low mids some, and added a lot of high mids since the C-5 GT only has a low and high EQ. Combined with the P5 neck pickup it just sounds big and thicc, and when I hammer on those stainless strings it just gets plain rowdy and angry.

He’s worth a sub, he basically does the best review videos. Kind of modern metal focused but so is the gear.

what do you think about this one ?

I think this one is actually great and high on my DG list. Especially with passive basses it is also a nice boost.

Works really well in front of any pedal. These days I rather overdrive my (pre)amp. Altho purely for boost it’s a bit expensive. I was also looking into Fortin (boost) pedals.

I’m wondering if it would be a great shaping pedal for pure clean tone

According to TalkBass it acts wonderful as a clean bass preamp.

It’s basically an always on pedal.

Personally - I wouldn’t. If all you want is a clean preamp you don’t need to go DG. I would buy DG for their dirty, dirty dirt - not their lone clean preamp

MXR is less expensive and known for being clean.

I’ve got an MXR m81 on my board and it does the job without adding flavor

Also have a B3K first gen for when flavor is the ticket

I am probably more stoked about the commercial than the actual product itself, but these 200w mini amps from DG look very cute! I loved my TC BAM 200 amp.

Sold all my Darkglass stuff. Everything I had from them was top notch, but I decided to go with different preamps. The resale value was pretty good for most pedals.

I am keeping these two cute little pedals. The B1K and DFZ. Awesome distortion and fuzz in a very small package.

What preamps did you land on?

IIRC I actually turned a profit on my Microtubes X.

The Origin Effects Bassrig (SVT/Bassman). Those are absolutely amazing and with the DI cab sim they function as an amp in a box pedal.

Amp in a box pedals are awesome.
