David Gilmour on learning to play guitar

“For most of us, playing the guitar is about as simple as walking. Of course, it took us all a couple of years to learn how to walk.” - Pete Seeger

David Gilmour was unique in Pink Floyd because he was the only one who had any idea of how to play his instrument, even though his skills were rudimentary as he had many times admitted himself. I don’t think any of them knew any theory, like the Beatles didn’t. Poor old Roger Waters had to be shown by David Gilmour how to play the bassline live on many songs, he was that bad, perhaps due to his total lack of interest in playing the bass

David Gilmour himself would disagree. I have seen evidence that he was very impressed by Richard Wright.
