It’s cause two of your basses have Humbuckers! There is this old Dutch saying: “Once you had Humbuckers you never go back”

I have a perfect solution for me. I play through my Zoom B3n into Presonus Eris 4.5 active studio speakers. Which are perfect because I can have them simultaneously plugged into my computer for Spotify, videos, backing tracks etc. and also into my mp3 player so optimising space for staying in a small chalet (as well as transportation to said chalet). However It’s never going to sound as good as playing through my Ampeg with it’s 10" speaker.

True

Not for travel, right?

Well I’ll be away for three months so I have to have something with reasonably good sound. It’s not as if it’s for just a weekend or week. Basically I have to load my car (big estate with ski roof box) with all my ski mountaineering kit and clothing (including 4 different sets of skis), all my work stuff, laptop, 2nd monitor etc., all my everyday clothing, and all my cooking stuff plus electric and acoustic basses. It does get to be a bit of a squeeze, but for three months you need a lot!

Note: until the year after Covid I used to do all this in a motorhome (though only acoustic car in those days!).

This is what I use for travelling and park playing:

It’s a 1l bottle, for size reference.

Just replace one bottle of Scotch with the Charge

(Note: the Charge 4 is the last JBL Charge with an aux-in, which is a must for latency free playing!)

Is that a fancy Southern / that there London dish?

It just all depends on how you’re travelling. I’m almost always going away for two to three months and so take the car as I need adequate clothing and other stuff to last that long. Whilst I’m sure the Charge sounds OK I simply have never found any speakers that small that I would be happy enough using for that long.

Yeah! I use headphones most of the time too - except when I’m on a sunny terrace in the South of France … or want some space in the park

One thing about the Charge though: they seem to have a high pass filter, so they never sound distorted. What’s missing is the very low end that kicks your tummy…

I tried that out last night (100% neck, passive, tone rolled down) and I can make that work if I don’t want to swap out basses for specific songs but looking for a P bass tone. Again, you’re right. :scream:

Me too only I did the opposite

Sometimes one just need the beefier neck feel not just to inspire the song being played but to also give the appreciation to the sports car feel when jump to fast narrow Jazz neck.

Yeah until you try P pickup wired in parallel then you’d never go back, :joy:
Btw how old is that Dutch saying

It was first mentioned on a cave painting in the southern mountain region of Holland, dated to the upper paleolithic … so that’s 40.000 years old (give or take a few months). Homo Néerlandais predated the other homos in many things

That sounds interesting!

Can I do that with my EMG active P’s too?

How?

That should be “chalk”! I have a habit of not proof-reading what I type before I hit the big ol’ send button! It’s got me into trouble on more than one occasion!

. I believe I asked Anthony that question before

*Me: I do have a question, can the Jazz and/ or the P be wired in selectable series and parallel? If so how do I do that. Thanks. *

*Anthony: Only possible with our passive PJs (like our Geezer PJ set, or solid-cap PJHZ set). Not the TWX like the Dutchman has. *

A “light” mod could be to use a Push-Pull Master Volume to place the P coils in parallel with each other. That could introduce one more tonal option without completely gutting the stock Fender preamp.

LOL!

I also still have the active P (in conjuntion with a JX) and an active PX (in conjunction with a 35TWX).

But I’m happy … and curious!
