Do you name your basses?

If it was a “Squire” you could name it “Billy”.

But in fact it’s a “Squier” and that makes it difficult.

I almost didn’t get it, but then I realised: RGB. Is the only explanation I came up with that makes perfect sense!

If you buy four more, you could go for CMYK

I only own one bass and she is named Sundown. When I hit a certain anniversary of bass playing (I always said 5 years, but I don’t think I’ll be able to hold out that long), I have my eyes on an avalanche white p-bass and she will be named Sunrise.

Yes, it’s how I see it. Maybe a guitar could be female, for me the bass has a male sound because the tone is low. But of course anyone can name their basses as they want, and a bass can feel female.

The Bass is also a good name, and the “The” in front makes it sound special, like this bass is The Bass!

When you have one named Sundown, it’s almost inevitable one day you will have to get a new one and name it Sunrise.

It’s true! But, shhh  …don’t tell Sundown I am thinking about this!

I actually decided on a name today, an hour ago. I had for some days been thinking of possibly names, Fox and Rex being 2 of the possibilities, but I couldn’t make up my mind. Rex is from a German Shepherd, from an old TV series probably everyone knows about, I think. Inspector Rex (or Kommissar Rex). The sunburst on the Squier is similar in colour to German Shepherd dogs, and I like dogs. And I like the name.

An hour ago I was about to watch TV with my husband (some other TV series, The Big Band Theory), and suddenly he said “Rex”. And I was “Whaaaat??” And then he said “ Poliisikoira Rex” (that’s the name of the Inspector Rex series in Finnish). I thought it was so weird, because I had been thinking about this but hadn’t told him. It was so weird!!! So I decided my bass guitar’s name shall be Rex.

Now I can’t think of a better name. This was so weird! I hadn’t mentioned this name to him nor to anyone. It was only on my mind.

It turned out I said “HBO Max” when I was looking for The Big Band Theory, and the word Max or the way I said it brought Inspector Rex to his mind. Still, very weird coincidence nevertheless. We last watched Inspector Rex more than 20 years ago.

Too soon to make Sundown jealous. Let she enjoy being the only bass for as long as she can

That’s very creative! Cool choice!

Love it! …and your husband very randomly saying the name is the universe telling you it is to be just so.

This week was full of weird coincidences. Some day @Whying_Dutchman wrote that he has a friend who lives in a windmill, and in the same day I watched a series where someone mentioned a windmill. I rarely even hear windmills mentioned, let alone twice in the same day.

Some days ago my husband sent me a link to a YouTube video of a performance of Diana Damrau as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute opera. And in the same day, someone else mentioned The Magic Flute.

There were other weird coincidences this week, but I can’t remember them now.

Thanks! Yes, it felt like a sign to me!

Oooh, Kommissar Rex. Cool dog.

And also “rex" is Latin for “king".

But I go for the whole thing: bass name = “Kommissar Rex”. :joy:

Yes, it was one of the reasons why I considered this name.

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It sounds very cool!

I guess I’m pretty basic. Both my basses share a first name: “The”. Their last names are “Jazz” or sometimes “Player” (it’s a Fender Player Jazz) and “Charvel” (it’s a Charvel San Dimas), respectively.

Inspired by “Rex", I was just thinking that I could name it “Der Kommissar” after the Falco song. Falco was a very good bassist, I love to see him playing bass.

So…. go and tell “Rex” that he (maybe) inspired the name of one of his brothers (although the owner still thinks it is actually not necessary).

It’s a perfect name! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

That works very well too. I was probably going to do the same, until two friends asked me whether I had already named my bass, and then I started considering possible names.

I have “the acoustic” and “the electric”…

I did try naming my bases a while ago, when I had a lot less of them. I honestly can’t remember any of the names I picked except for two, Jake and Elwood, for my two blue aerodyne’s, P bass and jazz bass. Not to mention that I can’t remember which one I named Jake, and which one I named Elwood. So, I decided I wasn’t gonna bother naming my basses lol
