A piezo pup
Piezo or saddle pickup take the signal straight from strings. It can be bright but the tone is undeniably acoustic/electric bass. I have a few with piezo bridge not a whole lotta use in general but the one time you get to use it, it’s worth every penny you spent.
you can actually add that to your Ronin if you feel like squeezing in more components ![]()
I added similar system to my Stratocaster with EMG, the preamp can be tricky but doable. I contacted Anthony at EMG when I converted mine and got the wiring diagram for it.
Ah, piezo … we had this discussion already!
No, Ronin has enough PUs now ![]()
Wouldn’t that be something for a fretless?
Nah, it’s good for all.
My default position is roughly where the P-pickup would be. That is usually the “sweet spot” on most basses.
I will vary my plucking from all the way next to the neck (like Fret 24 height) to about 1” in front of the bridge, depending on the tone I am looking for.
Neck gets me super fluid, mellow, and wubby for like verse in “Wicked Game”
As close to bridge as I can maintain tone gets me a uper metallic and can be almost synth-like for 80’s music or “Chameleon”.
Usually I’ll float between where the pickup positions on a J-bass would be depending on feel.
I will often do crescendos where I start the run just about where the J neck pup would be down to the J-bridge position to produce an increasingly sharper and more defined sound as I crescendo.
My band teacher just said its depends on your preference and how you want it to sound.
I don’t think so.
Needs a piezo.
