Oh, thats cool. I know other brands use them, but they are not the norm. Its awesome when you have it, just so much more convenient.

** UPDATE**
10 Days ago I ordered an irig2 to connect my Motorola Power, Android phone, to my Bass and primarily use the iStroboSoft tuning app.
I just received it and I just wanted to let those that are interested know that it works like a charm using Android version 11 even though most talks on the irig2 talk about using it with iphones and Apple tablets.

So the iStroboSoft tuning app on my iPhone I cannot seem to get the cable part to work, it only recognizes the microphone as an input.
I thought it was working fine first test but no.
Is there a setting you have to select to get it from microphone mode to cable input mode?

Today I got to use my nut files!
I took the plunge and glad I did.
When I got the Frank Bello ESP bass, the G string was sitting way way to low in the nut. I could adjust out of fret buzz via the truss rod but a day of humidity got the buzz right back.
It’s a black nut, so spent the $18 on the stew mac bone nut powder and the ultra thin super glue, well worth it.
Followed their video and took about 20 minutes all in (mostly waiting for the glue to dry).
Like the truss rod a few months ago, I was afraid to file, add glue, etc to a shiny (or matte) new bass. Now I laugh at my fear of truss rods, and, also at my fear of nut modifications.
That little thing would have ended up in a 1-2 week stay at the luthier and $40-$50 out of my pocket.

Are you using the Peterson cable (or an iRig?)
I just went Peterson cable -> 1/8" to Lightning adapter -> iPhone and it works perfectly. Probably works ok for light recording too, haven’t tried with Garageband.

Maybe my 1/8" to lightening adaptor is bad.

Those things go bad regularly for me. Think of them as a subscription (or maybe I am just good at destroying them). Even the Apple ones are flimsy.
Works on my ipad with a USB-C to 1/8" adaptor, so must be the lightning to 1/8".
I know I have 10 of the damn things in the house, of course can only find the one bad one.

I have had issues with NON APPLE cables, regardless of brand. I even had a Peterson cable that kept getting the message window stating it was not an authorized cable before. Same with a generic USB to lightning, but every time I change to apple, they work.
Sometimes generic work just fine, and sometimes they work on one phone or ipad, and don’t on the next. It is enough to drive me crazy sometimes, but if possible, I just get the apple brand converter cable or adapter.

I have never had to adjust, file or sand a nut before. If I had to do a nut, I would probably start with your method. Not only do you learn the mix and fix with powder and glue, but you also can practice filing. Plus, if you mess up, you can just fill er back up, and do it all over again, til you get it just right.
If I were to order just a nut, and try to file it, I probably would end up needing to have a 2nd or 3rd for back up, cuz I would probably mess up the first try.
I like this method, and it is how I will go about it if / when I need to.

Peterson as in the strobe tuner company? That’s the cable we’re talking about above, their iStroboSoft instrument to 1/8" TRRS adapter. It’s not an iPhone cable.
It’s basically a much less expensive iRig.

I tried a Peterson brand cable before, got it from Sam Aah, and had to return it.
Yeah I’m asking because it’s possible that’s flaky for him too.
On the irg2 there is a switch labelled FX/Thru and I set it to Thru for the tuner.
The FX position is for the use of effects apps that are available for the irig2.
There is also a gain control and I just set it to mid point to start and it worked fine from there.

Thats probably why my Peterson cable didn’t work with Garage Band on my Ipad as well. I had to end up going from a Zoom U-22 thru a camera USB to Lightning adapter. I also bought an Amazon camera adapter, but had to return it and get the Apple brand camera adapter for a reliable connection.

Ahh yeah, now I remember when you did that and were having trouble getting it to work.
Except in Canada where the shipping from the US, for the Peterson cable, was more than buying the irig2 from BestBuy.

Once I got into Garage Band reliably, I just started using it’s tuner. It is pretty accurate, with decent repeatability. I am sure the Peterson is more accurate, with better repeatability, but for me, the GB tuner works good enough. That Peterson strobe app looks awesome, but I can’t get access to the Itunes app store that my phone is linked too, so I can’t even get that right now.
If I did, I would absolutely purchase Transcribe Plus first, then peterson strobe app 2nd.

Recording in to Garageband worked fine for me just now, bass -> Peterson adapter -> 1/8" to Lightning adapter -> iPhone. Levels were high and it was kind of noisy but it worked. I wouldn’t use it for real but it would be fine for jamming in some ideas or something.
