Several months back I had the misfortune of a cheap lead snapping off in my Ibanez, due to my clumsiness. I live on the West Coast of Cumbria (The Lake District) so felt quite lucky to find a music shop about 20 miles away. Long story short, they had it for about 3 weeks, but eventually it came back from the repair guy. It wasn’t great. if you knocked the lead it got quite crackly at times, but I was reluctant to let the same guy ‘fix’ it again, so tolerated it.
It has been ok for a few months, but got quite bad a couple of days ago.
Upon inspection, the socket was quite loose, and a wire had snapped off the connection.
I took it to my mechanic (the shop is next door) to borrow a spanner, but he tightened it up for me, noticed the wire and resoldered that too. He also put better shrink insulation on a couple of other connections too!
All is working as it should be, so i know where to go next time I have issues

btw in a couple other threads we have discussed soldering. if you don’t it’s really pretty easy to learn and can come in super handy in cases like these. anyways a good mechanic is worth their weight in gold.

Thank you. I was going to solder it this weekend, but no need now!

I am proof that anyone can solder. I am tool challenged, but I have swapped out many pickups in less than an hour. It makes me feel all manly. I puff my chest out and everything.

He’s used to dealing with Lucas Electrics. This has got nothing on that.
