I wanted to share a fantastic source for bass tabs I’ve discovered. It’s Tiefsaiter’s YouTube channel. Like so many other similar channels, he has play-along tabs on YouTube. What sets him apart from some other channels, and apps like Songsterr and Ultimate Guitar, is that (at least so far in my experience) his tabs are 100% accurate and correct. And to be clear, by 100% correct, I mean not only is he playing the right notes and rhythms, but he’s also playing in the correct position that the actual bassist plays (this is where Songsterr and UG go wrong, even when they get the notes & rhythms right). He’s also done a LOT of songs in a number of genres. So I highly recommend his channel.
Even better, though, is his Patreon. Right now the basic membership is $4 per month, and with that you can download PDFs of all the songs he’s done on the YouTube channel. He provides 2 PDFs for each song: one with the bass tabs and the score, and one with just the score. The PDFs are really well done, and like I said, 100% correct.
For $4.50 a month, you also get a midi file for each song that allows you to bring it into a DAW like Reaper and do things like isolate the bass, remove the bass, and change the tempo of the song. You can either play along with the DAW or use the DAW to make an mp3 recording of what you want to put on your device.
I have no affiliation with this guy (other than I’m a patron of his). This is just the #1 source for bass tabs I’ve tried. I won’t say I’ve tried everything that’s out there (that’s likely impossible), but I’ve used Songsterr & UG a LOT, and I’ve followed a lot of bass YouTube channels over the years.
So go check him out. The YouTube channel is totally free, and will let you know if you dig his tabs and song selection.
EDIT to add: He also includes the chords on the PDFs. I know UG doesn’t put the chords on their tabs, which is super annoying, because you have to look at/print a separate chord sheet. I don’t remember whether Songsterr does or not.
I know his channel, and I enjoy his videos very, very much. Yesterday I was thinking of subscribing to his Patreon page. His tabs and sheet music are very well done. He’s a pro.
I also know the Tiefsaiter channel and subscribed already some time ago. The guy is from Germany (which has nothing to say but since I’m from Germany too, I thought I mention it )
For a while I spent a lot of time ‘fixing’ Beatles bass tabs to get a bunch of songs exactingly right, just, well, because. What I found was every tab I looked as was wrong, every last one. Some better than others, some really bad (esp the “official” Beatles tab songbook - widely known for being very very inaccurate. Not sure why they are all so bad, but they are. Sadly, same here.
That said, he is great and has a lot of good stuff.
I still think Constantine rules the bass tab lands for not only quantity but accuracy. And he is the nicest, friendliest guy in the world, happy to chat about tabs and songs etc and fix errors folks find.
Which specific tabs do you think are incorrect? I’ve yet to find an error. If there are mistakes he’d probably fix them. I just haven’t seen any, but I haven’t played every tab he’s done.
Great resource. For those who don’t speak German, “tief” means “deep” or “low” and “saiten” is “strings”, so “saiter” would be “stringer”, so “low stringer”. Great handle!
I forgot to add he also includes the chords on the PDFs. I know UG doesn’t put the chords on their tabs, which is super annoying, because you have to look at/print a separate chord sheet. I don’t remember whether Songsterr does or not.
