Steve Harris for sure - reason I picked Bass as an instrument. Cliff Burton, Geezer Butler. Yeah so I’m into metal. I really like Robert DeLeo’s bass lines. Tim Commerford. too.
I like some mellower stuff like Aston Barrett for sure. Recently interests also include James Jamerson. Marcus Miler is cool too. I like the song Detroit but would like it even more w/o the horns - just the bass, guitar and drums would suit me more.

Lots of classics mentioned. I’ll start with one of my current favorites:
Avatar - Henrick Sandelin’s bass playing is mixed really well and stands out in this Swedish Melodic Death Metal band.

I played a jam cruise where George Porter Jr was the featured artist, and The Meters were the headliners.
He did a bass clinic, bass workshop, the band played a few sets - it was awesome.
On the last day as we were getting off the boat, I was in line for the elevator with George and his wife. It was awesome. I asked him about a bass line. It was awful, and embarrassing and I’m sure the last thing he was hoping for. But it was great, and I’m so glad I got to chat bass for a second with the legend.
I got to jam with the guys from Galactic on that cruise too - hanging out with Stanton Moore and doing some late night jam session bass playing.
Damn.
That was fun.

Nah, I’m just glad at least one other person knew who George Porter Jr is and who The Meters are. I seem to be at least a generation apart from much of the crew here.
Which is fine but then I end up being the guy who has no idea who most of the bassists named in lists made by others are. I’m still back in the Jamerson, Dunn, Babbit, Johnson, Weeks, East, Wooten, etc, era which of course I make no apologies for.
