Finding bass tutor after B2B

Hey yall,

Is there an aggregate online search engine for finding music tutors/teachers or have folks found that it is area specific. Im thinking of websites like Taskrabbit etc.

Also thoughts on online vs. in-person.

Sorry if this is a redundant post to somewhere else in the forum. Will delete if needed. Thanks

I kind of had the same thought. I decided to go through the B2B course first to make sure my technique was solid along with other things. When I finish, if there are areas that need more work, I am probably going to go to Guitar Center here where I live. I have already talked to them about who they have to teach bass. They have a few people and I can have them work with me on anything that I might need. They don’t mind if you only need to get a few in person sessions or many. I will also try to do some of the Talk Bass courses too.

Before any other qualifier, I’d look for a bass teacher who’s primary instrument is bass rather than a guitarist who can play bass.

Yes I noticed that a lot of their teachers teach multiple instruments. Don’t know what to think about that.

You’ve probably seen it but you can search for and view the teachers with a blurb about them and what they teach in an almost dating app profile format at individual GC stores for lessons from their web page. IME it only shows up on regular web, not mobile web. Also, they really like charging for 4 weeks at a time, so need to be careful about that if you only want a couple.

What and why? Not who?

That the question you need to answer before you start looking.

The most important thing to do as soon as you finish the B2B is not to continue but to go back a few times while amassing the library of songs when you find yourself hitting the same issue over and over then you can seek out your private lessons.

Look at it as a cooking lesson(s) you can only do so much more importantly, you can only absorb so much, usually no more than 5 minutes worth of instruction. If you find yourself needing more than 20 of instruction you are not ready to spend that kind of money for someone to watch you play.

Post your progress on the “post your Covers” thread and ask for feedback, this would be the way to go. I see my “tutor” 3-4 times a year total instruction time is less than 10 minutes because it’s very specific and it’s not something you’ll get down in 5 minutes, usually takes a few weeks to get the muscle memory down and a few months to get it under your fingers.

yeah its mainly to seek help on personal songs I wanna learn to play where my ear might not be keen enough to pick up on it. I’m 40 and my ears have seen some mileage so picking up the riff I wanna play and what not isn’t always easy.

I dont think I’d be looking for long lessons more than asking for help on some things and then touching base later. Maybe tutor wasn’t quite the right term but certainly looking for someone who can help shed light when I need it and be compensated.

I also think I need to engage this forum more for sure!

Thanks

If it’s transcription then it’s an acquired skill. You should start with easy one first and not cheat, just build that listening muscle. After a few dozens songs you’d be surprised how much you learned. In the mean time your favorite songs you’d can probably find on YouTube or just pay for them over Fivrr.

Fiverr! Perfect thanks! That’s part of what I’m looking for.

There isn’t much for some of the bands/music I’m looking for so this would be super helpful.

Yeah I’ll try to develop my ear but 40 year old ears don’t pick up everything like they used to.

thanks
