Fixed my signal chain hum with some DIY pedal repairs!

Sharing not just because I’m pleased as punch with myself but to hopefully encourage anyone who’s overwhelmed at the thought of doing simple electronic repairs. I used to be a solid nope on touching anything with a circuit board. Well until I fell for the siren song of modding and spiraled out hard from there

The very short version is I bought both an early 80s MXR 10 band equalizer and an Boss TU-2 tuning pedal for cheap. After getting daily use the electrical gremlins came out to play and made themselves known in the form of crackles and hums. Took both pedals apart and with some cleaning, a capacitor replacement, and adjusting the jacks everything is right as rain!

So ya! Even if you’re not down for taking things apart yourself (I also took apart my stereo amp/receiver as well as a fabric shaver and fixed them because it’s been a goofy few days) it’s absolutely worth being able to diagnose signal chain issues.

Figured y’all would understand the satisfaction of victory over WHY IS IT HUMMING NOW IT DIDN’T HUM YESTERDAY??

Nice work finding the bad cap.

That was the easiest bit honestly. One of the legs had broken off the circuit board
