They are meant for 34", so I dont think they will be excessively long. I was more worried about cutting the tapered silk end to size, but it seems like most people do this without bad results.
Cutting the strings should not be an issue. Just make sure not to cut them too short. 4" past the post they go on should be fine for wider posts.
TI flats wind perfectly on a headed 34-inch scale length with a standard bridge design. Slap those puppies on and have fun!
Put on the flats last night, and had to do a full setup after. A lot of buzz initially, but finally adjusted it out after several truss rod adjustments and string height adjustments. Was very frustrated initially, but things seemed to settle after I put the bass up and went to bed. This morning… Wow, I could get used to these.
Once you flat, you don’t go back
Congrats, @AnotherJosh. You’ll love TIs.
I have rounds on my Jazz-y bass (NYXL) and TI Jazz flats on my P-ish bass.
I just played my P for an extended session as moral support of your initial flats-cursion. Damn, those strings are fine. Have a blast getting to know ‘em.
D’Adderio Chrome’s just arrived. Interesting how different they are!
I’ll try to string them up tonight on my Kingman!
All strung up. Sounds good. I was expecting a quieter sound but they are just as loud. I also don’t get the “warm” tone. Maybe it’s just my ears.
Stringing the guitar was a learning experience. Removed and replaced one string at a time. The pegs in the body kept wanting to pop so pushing those down as I wound the tuner was fun.
So far I’m happy.
Edit: after playing them for a bit, yes. I love them. Sliding isn’t as loud as with ribbed strings, but the feel, and now I hear it, the tone is just so nice.
Some flats tend to sound bright at first but mellow beautifully over time. Chromes are that type string.
I see, I look forward to hearing that!
D’A Chromes will sound bright pretty much forever.
I have no idea how old mine were when I got my Cutlass and they were on it. But I played them for about nine months after that, and their sound remained consistently bright.
Nice strings, but I prefer TI Jazz flats any day of the week.
I also prefer the TI Jazz Flats. I had a set of Chromes on one of my basses. They started out zingy but mellowed in the first month or so. However, you are right about them staying bright long term.
I would have gone TI but 5hey we’re considerably more. Maybe someday for my Yamaha electric.
I’m definitely getting some for my ubass, but I’m waiting on Aquila to put out their new ones as seen on the ubass freaks Facebook group.
They are, but when you factor in how often you change flats, the cost is more reasonable. And they are the best string I have played.
Update on my DR Legends (stainless flats). I really didn’t care for these at first. Three weeks later they have mellowed nicely, are a lot closer to what I had in mind, they stay on for now.
DR makes awesome strings. My second favorite manufacturer after TI.
I just received a bass that is strung with LaBella Deep Talking flats, and I tell you they feel as good to me as the TI’s. What is the complaint on LaBella’s, do they not last as long as TI’s? I would be tempted to go with LaBella’s at half the cost next time I need a set of flats unless there is a reason to pay double for the TI’s. Thoughts?
I think complaint would be too strong a word, but they do last a long time. I prefer TIs because they have a much lower string tension, and they much brighter. DTFs are hex core, and hex core strings are higher tension as a rule. TIs are round core, as are LaBella Lower Tension
You could almost roll up TIs and put them in a sleeve for guitar strings. They’re super flexible
That makes sense. The DTFs I am using are the 760FL’s, supposedly less tension than the 760FS’s. These are on the Sirena Wombat, it was delivered to my office today. Unfortunately it is staying at the office this weekend because I took my motorcycle to work. I’ll post some pics when I can. The neck is unbelievable.
I don’t have a drawer full of strings.
They don’t fit, i put mine in the cabinets. lol.
