Man, my hat’s off to you, my friend. What a superb experience, at any age! But being there, that young? Holy shit!!!
To quote an old favorite of mine: If it couldn’t be me, I’m glad it was you.
Kudos on being in the room when the magic went down.

Blind F’ing Luck.
That’s the very best kind.
Now, that’s cool
That sound brings me back… (not that I was around when they originally played it)
I was thinking of you, @joergkutter, when I posted that tune. I remember we spoke offline about Autumn Leaves. If you hadn’t heard it done extremely fucking fantastically, I wanted you to.
Here I am with my 2 younger brothers, a couple of days after that show. I’m still the same height. My brothers finished at 6’3" and 6’4". When I was 60, I finally figured out (confirmed by 4 different doctors) that the blow to the right side of my head that knocked me unconscious playing American football in Sept. '65 had caused some permanent damage. I stopped growing and have suffered from PTSD-like symptoms and other mental and physical health issues ever since. So, '65 was a year of highlights and lowlights for me.
Thanks, Mike! The problem with Autumn Leaves is, of course, that it is so “over-used” (no jam without…) and so finding a “fresh” version is indeed a challenge. Great find!
Oh man… that was beautiful! Thanks for sharing Mike!
Levin Brothers last night - really great straight ahead jazz mixed with some oddballs and others.
2+ hours straight. Highly suggest seeing them.
Great tune. Among other things, it showcases: 1) talented musicians can play solid, funkified music while reading it from sheet, and 2) the B string is definitely useable.
Will Lee makes use of every note on every string. He is the consummate performer and one the most sought-after session bassists. Truly one of the best.
Yeah, he hardly ever takes the limelight and just provides a solid support for others to shine over… And he’s been doing that for… like forever
Yep, a good Texas boy who done good in New York City.
Will was in the Letterman show band since the 80s and he’s played with everybody.
Fun fact: I had a girlfriend in NY who got us primo tickets to the original NBC Letterman show. I got to see Paul Shafer and the band play then and another time, right before Lettermen retired. Absolutely super band, and Will was a major part of it.
I wonder what he gets for breakfast?? Dude still looks like he’s fresh out of college
Jazzin’ the blues.
Wowzers!
Yeah, this guy is all over the place right now…
