For the love of jazz

For those who dig jazz, post recommended videos here.

To kick things off, this is a killer performance of “You Look Good to Me” by the Oscar Peterson Quartet.

The artists I listen to are predictable for the most part, Ella, Etta, Count Basie. For modern artists, the one I listen to the most is Diana

:100: All great choices.

Diana Krall is amazing. Such a talented musician.

Kat Edmonson is another great jazz stylist. This is her rendition of Lennon’s “(Just Like) Starting Over” from the Double Fantasy album.

Cannonball Adderley’s arrangement of Autumn Leaves is one of my favorites.

I had to share another one. This one is a bit more modern. Fine Corinthian Leather - Charlie Hunter

I find my jazz tastes evolve constantly (and grow) over time and I have been leaning more and more into the experimental and freestyle via Ornette Colman, and late Pharaoh Sanders / Coltrane stuff. Especially Ornette. Dipping my toes into Sun Ra of late too.

But, dollar for dollar, note for note, groove for groove, to me this is and always will be my #1 Jazz thing ever.

If you’re not familiar, put it on and leave it on. Play it a few times before judging. You will get there. It will take you.

Btw great thread idea @MikeC

A Love Supreme is otherworldly good. Love Coltrane, early and later work.

Jazz! Yes!
I spent weeks learning a few Scofield tunes. Absolutely loved it and have serious doubts about ever returning to rock

I really like Medeski, Martin & Wood.

Chris Wood is a fantastic bass player. Chris on bass and his brother, Oliver, are The Wood Brothers. If you haven’t listened to them, you really ought to give them a try.

Oliver brings soulful Southern-rock infused songwriting, singing, and guitar and Chris provides jazz bass as counterpoint. They really have a remarkable and original sound.

I am not a huge fan of Jazz but I am a huge huge fan of Yoko Kanno. And the work she did for Cowboy Bebop is amazing.

It’s not all Bebop; it’s a mix of Hard Bop, Big Band, Jazz and Blues, with a little Tom Waits thrown in for good measure. But it’s all flat out great.

There’s a version of Tank out there done during covid. Kano asked for musicians to submit their parts for Tank, and she mixed them together

Well this one sax player’s dog started howling every time he started playing, and that’s the version she used, you can hear the dog in the background.

I love Kano. Hard to find that version there are so many versions of Tank

I’ve been following her work for 30 years now, she’s just an amazing composer.

Some nice DX7 in there.
