I always fear that Stanley will snap that tiny Alembic neck like a twig with his big hands ![]()
No worries, Alembics are over-built like crazy. Ain’t nothin’ lightweight or flimsy about them.
I saw Stanley play back in the 80s, at Austin’s venerable Paramount Theater.
He was all over the stage during the show, and he was NOT at all gentle with his signature Alembic. He and his boys blew the doors off the joint.
Ron Carter Quartet with Marcus Miller
Revealing the astoundingly great genius of Lennon-McCartney songwriting (despite Hank calling Paul by the name of John), the inestimable composer Henry Mancini.
On the subject of Beatles tunes - here is Gary Willis playing “Norwegian Wood” on his signature fretless. If something sounds a bit “off”, it’s because this version is in 3/4 time signature ![]()
Here’s a great irony in my life. When the Beatles made their appearances on the Ed Sullivan show, my biological male parent absolutely prohibited me from watching those “long-haired beatniks” (his words; he had no idea what a beatnik was). Years later, I overheard him whistling along to a Henry Mancini cover of a Beatles song. A real head shaker.
Guessing it was Michelle? that cover was all over US Easy Listening muzak in the ‘70s. My dad piping that shit through the house was why I got in to power metal as a pre-teen.
Mancini was great and in retrospect it’s a crime he got lumped in with that schlock.
That Willis rendition is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Incidentally, Lennon wrote Norwegian Wood in 3/4.
Hah… I didn’t know that… should do better research before posting “stuff”

Top shelf musicians, but I have never really warmed to the sound of the bandoneon… not quite my cup of tea ![]()
Probably my favorite Feraud composition. Here is another version (likely already shared previously…):
Marcus Miller and band do a killer Jazz rendition of Papa Was a Rolling Stone

Wonderful band, fantastic singer and lovely re-interpretation of Joni Mitchell songs that she recorded with Jaco, Michael Brecker, Don Alias, Pat Metheny, …
The whole set is great. Flo Moore coaxes a lot of nice sounds out of her “old” Mayones 5-string (her Jaco-inspired solo is around the 40 minute mark).
(In case you’re wondering about the masks… it was originally streamed during Covid times…)
Been really getting into Eric lately.
Recently got this compilation, some of which is really out there, some of it is more approachable…
