A bit of a random CA radio tid here, but for anyone who kicked around the SF Bay / Santa Cruz areas y’all might remember/know KFAT/KPIG radio. And if you didn’t know, William Goldsmith (aka Wild Bill), founder/owner of RadioParadise (a fantastic streaming music station), was a DJ at KFAT back in the 70s/80s. Then, as the audio engineer for KPIG, William also makes a claim to being the first radio station to stream on the web (KPIG: A Brief History – KPIG). After that he went on to found RadioParadise out of Paradise, CA. KFAT was before my time when I could get it, but I listened to plenty of Pig radio (107 oink 5) when I lived in Santa Cruz and it was always “deep fried”. A local central coast experience extraordinaire, and besides “well, it’s sort of country” it defies description.
Apparently William has gathered some original KFAT folks and is hosting a KFAT stream on his RadioParadise site. So, if you ever wanted that old FAT sound in the modern era (without the KPIG paywall), check it out here:
