Here’s a solution to practice amps that may be of interest to some.

I did that when I first got my bass and didn’t have an amp and was awaiting arrival of the Vox headphone amp. I also did it with the Vox amp when I didn’t have a speaker. Not much bass output from the portable bluetooth speaker I was using, but it allowed me to hear something amplfied without having t use headphones. I still do it when I want to play out loud and not be tied to my amp down in the basement, much to the chagrin of my wife.
