Think of this as a cry for help. I want a 5-string fretless. I’m a hopeless Fender fanatic. If I could lay my hands on a Fender this topic wouldn’t exist.
Has anyone “seen” a Fender fretless 5 in the wild? Goole does find a few. They are old and generally not for sale. That I’ve seen. I’ve had a couple of long searches. I walked away empty handed. I’m in the US but not afraid to order out. Anybody seen anything cool?
I can’t really comment about Fender, I’m not really a fan, although I do have a Squier 50s P.
I also have a Sire V7, four string fretless. It’s excellent and got about an hours play time today. They do a 5 string variant. The Sires really are worth checking out, if you haven’t tried one. Far better value, in terms of quality / finish at a price point, than a Fender (IMHO)
I have MM on the radar. Not a fan. The 2 I’ve actually seen firsthand (I know not a great way to make a judgment) didn’t impress. I get there is an ocean of them out there. Was hoping someone would spot a G&L somewhere.
Good question. There are plenty of 4 string fenders Fretless basses I’m not sure if I’ve seen a 5 string one. I love Fender. The custom Modded Tony Franklin Fretless I have is just awesome. That said I owned 2 5 string Fenders and I didn’t like either of them.
My favorite 5 string is MusicMan and the best 5 string Fretless I played in terms of feel probably the Gary Willis signature.
I was also going to suggest a Warmoth neck too
I looked at their site and my choice for a neck is about $550 which is about 3x what i paid for my Squier
I just looked and mine would be $367. It’s an unfinished Goncalo Alves neck and an unlined Ebony fingerboard.
