That’s an impressive amount of hours. I think I’ve tried many of the MMO’s that have come out over the past 20 years. LOTR Online was what I used to play as a break from WoW. Stuff like ESO, GW2, Warhammer Online, RIFT, even Defiance were good fun games, but didn’t hold my attention as much as WoW, Horde of course (addict!). @MattyD I do enjoy survival games too. No idea how I missed those of my list. Probably fell under the ‘Open World’ n my mind. Base building, foraging for food/resources, killing whatever mobs there are is great fun. Dayz is good fun too, but I prefer that on a private server.
I think No Man’s Sky is top of my ‘Most hours’ list on Steam. Sadly by the time all the great updates came out, I’d gone off it
Waiting for ‘Light No Fire’ now instead.
Hahahah. I bought a PS3 just for NMS. I wasn’t even let down by the features of the original.
I also haven’t really gone back to it since the updates came out. I also liked Elite dangerous I think that was it. There were 2 releases and it was a space ship fighting game. Empyron and space mechanic were interesting too. Planet crafter was great but I beat it so quick. I think there is more out now.
Had that game on Stadia. Google cancelled stadia and payed me back for my game and controllers. Was also nice enough to write a driver that allowed me to use the stadia controllers as Bluetooth controllers.
I’m not a huge Google fan but dang… That was the best money I ever spent.
I had to quit games in 2002 when my Diablo II and Baldur’s Gate addictions were interfering with my bass practice for my Jazz Studies major.
I can’t go back.
In true addict style, if I open the door a crack, the next thing I know it’s 2am and I’m on a side quest for some thing to get to the next level for the thing… and it all starts again.
I am now an evangelist to all my young students about video game addiction, being aware of time and effort, and desperately urging them to alternate their time of consuming creative ideas with producing creative ideas.
It’s wild out there.
And the games only get better, and better, and more immersive, etc.
I wouldn’t stand a chance.
My wife and I quit wow after hitting the trial level cap. Our time expired and we’re like, “we can either play this or have lives”
Honestly though WoW and Neverwinter Nights 2 are probably the reason we got so close early in our relationship. I mean you quest with someone for days and share all of those experiences together…
With my GF we like couch co-op games, it’s perfect for winter week-ends. We always search for good local co-op games. Now we play Guns Gore & Cannoli which is pretty much a Metal Slug -like 2D shooter. Very good game.
I’m trying to work on this with my kids. The idea that some things that we do give us pleasure and relaxation but they eat time and don’t produce lasting results.
I’m trying to set up a rule that chores are done and 30 mins of exercise and 30 of practicing music are done before screen time. Since those 2 hobbies are fun and also leave you with something worthwhile.
