'93 would make it one of the last of the truly handmade neckthrough thumbs.
It’ll be worth the scrubbing!

Done :white_check_mark:
You’re certainly spot on with the Naphtha @LeftyChad
Looking at the truss rod cover it certainly looks handmade @HowlinDawg . The lettering on it looks hand written!

Poor man’s Apollo.

I really like SD Apollo jazz pups and the Lindy Fralin split coil jazz pups. However, I don’t really want to spring 300 Canuckistanian Bolivianos right now, considering all the other GAS that’s inflated me. So, I ordered a set of these:

Now that I have quite a few different pickups in one place to A/B compare from stock to Fender CS, to Fralin to EMG Claypool/Geezer/Bello/MM/Sims in P to JJ to HB to PJ, I can say this….IMO…

In most cases stock pickups are worth replacing (less MM and the ones used on the Gretsch hollow body).

They all give unique tone/characteristic tone qualities.
The signature ones color a bit more specifically. And not “universal” but nail certain tones.

They are super fun to mess with and find tone colors.

Actually, deferring to your opinion @John_E : since I’ll be replacing the pups, I figure the pots will deserve a look as well.

The Peavey is essentially a JB, with standard single-coil jazz pups and VVT controls.

The split coil pups going in are noise cancelling. Should I replace the pots with 500K ones? How did you do the split jazz pup controls in your bass?
Also, what sort of tone cap should I put in, 0.22 or 0.47?

Those look like linear humbuckers, that’s how the Apollo’s do it. Nice. And save a few loonies. Gotta let me know how they sound

I put 250k pots and .047 cap in all my JJ PJ and P basses. You sure don’t have to change anything. If I hear scratchiness or see bad wiring I change it just to not have to bother going in again later

Thank you, John. Yeah, the pots were scratchy when I bought the bass, but I spun them back and forth a bit, and they’re dandy now. The plates must have gotten a bit dusty. I have a 0.047 cap that I will put on. While I have it open, I’ll redo all the shielding and the grounds. Either the bridge or jack ground or both are a bit hissy (i.e. the hiss goes away when I palm the strings or bass-end cable jack which makes me think grounding fault).

BTW. I put the order in this morning, and this afternoon I already got a tracking number and an approximate arrival date.

I also sent them a question today, and they responded within two hours.

Amazing customer service so far.

Pre-order first run of the new Bigsby pedal from Gamechanger. A Tremolo arm for your foot.
No retuning every 5 seconds required. Fun as heck. Set-able from fractions of a semi-tone to a full octave.
I might need a guitar now.

Bass VI has tremelo…

Now all mine do…

I’ll be interested in how much you use it. I took the trem off my guitar because I never used it and it was just hanging there. I would actually prefer guitars without it.

Mind if I ask where you got her? I have a five NT and I’m looking for a 4. I just can’t seem to find one in decent condition at a realistic price.
