It’s a very very niche sport. It’s the only thing, apart from Bass, that I get really excited about. Most people quit, it’s not an easy sport for beginners. I’ve spent decades paddling. It’s the only place where I’m really just present. I’m not thinking about anything else. Me, the river; that’s it. Right there, right now.
That’s one of the things that I really enjoyed about skydiving (full disclosure: I’m a former skydiver. And I hope to be a future skydiver. I’m just not a right now skydiver…, but I’ve been using the username for so long, I don’t want to pick something new ) For 1-2 minutes, there was nothing else on my mind. I imagine it was almost kinda zen - very in the moment…
Funny when worlds (almost) collide… one time I was on short final into a small airport with lots of skydiving activity and a guy floated in across the runway right in front of me. I have no idea if he was in the moment, but he was definitely about 20 seconds away from being in my propeller
I get that skydivers want to land on the airport as it’s a short hike back to the jump school. But please don’t aim for the runway
After years in a small apartment, my GAS finally got me. I found out that I cannot simply buy another synth because of space. I should be moving to North Carolina for work in about two months, but the whole Covid situation and my health made it impossible to do the move so I will stay in Prague and in 2 weeks will be moving to a different flat (2 streets from here ) with THREE rooms. Bedroom, living/dining room, and the STUDIO.
For my 1st year bass anniversary, I wanted to buy my dream bass, Rickenbacker. However, as I cannot almost play, and right now I don’t even know if my shoulder will be actually usable again for bass … like ever … I will have (I know I know) to spend the money on something else. And with an actual studio space, I finally can get the synth I really want for some time now. Arturia Matrixbrute.
I will post a comment on this majestic beast as soon as it arrives. I am waiting for the Noir edition which should be available in 2 to 3 weeks here. Tbh. I am feeling like a kid that has to wait for Christmas eve for his dream present.
As an Arturia fangirl I say excellent choice I would love to have a PolyBrute but simply do not have the space for it. I do have Pigments, V Collection, FX Collection, a Keylab 49 mk2, MiniBrute 2S, MicroBrute, and a 6U RackBrute
That sounds like a fun bunch! Mircrofreak is IMHO must-have. It’s the best cost/value synth in … I don’t even know when someone released such a powerful machine for such money. If ever. (Maybe Volcas … ) And it’s really small. ^^ I successfully hunted down some of Arturia’s VSTs in discount. But although Pigments is nice, more powerful than Avengers and all and there’s so much value in V Collection. But … I need knobs, keys, faders, pads, etc. . So at the end of all of the Arturia software, I use just their emulation of analog preamps. (Trident console is so good.) to record my HW gear with.
I really like Arturias sequencers and focus on UX details in general and I really like the concept of Matrixbrute, a modular setup on steroids, in one box. ME … WANT!
I watched a couple of videos about Polybrute. But tbh. I am not that concerned with a polysynth being digital. So with more space, I will finally get to buy a few digital polys which as a sum will be more powerful than Polybrute in exchange for the “Analog” feel which I am not that concerned about. But don’t get me wrong the machine is Beauty and the Beast in one package. But if I will cash out a few grand for a synth, it will definitely be first the Matrix Brute.
(The only case I would spend so much money on a different synth atm. is if Uli The Savior would release his promised CS80 clone. )
That RackBrute was one of the solutions I was looking into to start a modular setup. But … no, I have really weak willpower and to start with modular would mean too much money into something that actually isn’t anything else than a hobby. Even now it’s kind of ridiculous. I will stick with the few Behringer semimodulars I have here and stay way away from the slow process of electronic equipment devouring walls and my wallet.
Stuffing a 6U RackBrute could run you around $3000+ easily
Ask me how I know (lol)
These days I just have a Behringer K-2 and Wasp, and a handful of modules to spice it up. That combination of companies saved my ass on a compact jam station by letting me easily “go vertical” vs spread out on a desk or table.
The Keylab 49 and 61 have a set of knobs and faders pre-mapped to a lot of controls of Analog Lab/V Collection instruments, fwiw. I bought a soundforce SFC-5 just to control the Prophet V that I may or may not sell, not sure, yet.
The BeatStep Pro is a nice controller/sequencer, though, of course
Dark Night Fender American professional II with maple neck, not a standard one as only available in rosewood. The maple necks are available on 5 string and Jazz bass.
I swapped out the strings to the La Bella Copper White Tapewound. Feels great and sounds amazing.
The pickup is extraordinarily underwhelming, I’d give it a few more run over the weekend as sometimes this kind of pickup needs some serious muscle behind it to drive it a bit. I also have to recheck the grounds as well it buzz when I touch the pole pieces it shouldn’t. Luckily, I have a spare birdseye maple ramp it just fits the theme.
I love the color. It was between this and the Mocha Burst. This would really reminds me of Covid-19, 10 years down the road, lol.
