GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

My SW rep usually cuts me a deal.

The best service was when there was a mess up, and right after that I bought my Paranormal, and I got the pickups upgraded to Seymour Duncans and installed, for no cost. Just paid for the bass.

Although for least expensive, I go Musician’s Friend. And call them up. The bonus bucks add up, and they give you the same discount as GC, and you can return it to GC if you’re not happy. But. Service is crap if your instrument has an issue when you get home. Like non existent.

“A scratch? Can you buff it out?”

“Well, you can always return it.”

MFer I did not call you because it would buff out :joy: you’d think I was personally asking him to write me a check.

zZounds has always been good to deal with issues with shipped instruments. Sweetwater packed my guitar really well, too, and I guess if I want to drink their 55-point quality check grape drink in-theory I should get a good instrument.

They do give it a glamour shoot and weigh in, I guess.

But yeah, outside of special/limited editions like my purple Stiletto, or perhaps a 15% or 20% off coupon, MF can get fucked on buying instruments from XD

The “only” reason I order from SW is the little bag of goodies. One time I got 2, lol.

They don’t, but the weird thing is wwbw.com (woodwind and brasswind) does. And they are owned by GC. Apparently they don’t cross train best practices.

Chords of Orion dedicated a video to Sweetwater lamenting them removing atomic fireballs

Musician’s Friend, another GC company, called me a month or so ago, and has repeatedly emailed me asking how my interaction was with someone I had not interacted with lol…

This is a godless world…

…so I have looked at Babicz bridges and just got an email from zZounds about them.

Fedex dropped off both speakers, but not the sub. I’m hoping it’s just on another truck and not that the sketchy driver in this area just forgot it… :tipping_hand_woman:t2:

It also says not to put it on its side (another model can), I assume due to tweeter dispersion. But that’s how it has to sit :eyes: :woman_shrugging:t2:

Man I just relisted my USA Music Man Sub 5 with the current picture and Tapewound strings on Reverb, it’s gone in 10 minutes. You know you price it too low when it’s gone that quick, Darn! lol.

Nice monitor! My krk was white too. :ok_hand:
Hope you get the sub soon

@Barney How does the custom fees work when you order from Sweetwater? Do they add the fees to your order?

this was a mistake:

I’m going to be returning this and maybe getting the 8" speakers. Or just keep the 6.5" I don’t know.

Yay excuses to return it:

Last time I did it, you’re responsible for paying the fees at the post office / direct to the courier. Canada Customs assess the value and come up with a figure to charge you. Sweetwater has nothing to do with that process. Also if there’s a problem and you want a refund. You have to eat the customs fees as that’s not their problem.

Damn that’s harsh. Too bad. So many options down south and in Japan for some reason. Customs here is a killer of so many deals. There are a few companies that actually calculate the customs and add it to the final price so there are no shocks from the feds. B&H is one of them.

Spectre Studios (Canadian) on YouTube recently mentioned some things about getting things into Canada and to basically do everything you can to avoid coming in on ground and some other fashion like air, less courier fees, etc. it was in their last few videos.

You can use the customs calculator to get an estimate. Currently it’s 12% for guitars, amps etc.

From zZounds website:

Canadian customers:

  • Please mark the reason for export as “Return” when sending us a product.
  • If you would like a refund of your original customs fees, please contact your local Customs & Revenue/CBSA Casual Refund Centre office.
    • Complete the CBSA form B2G (Informal Adjustment Request)
    • Provide proof of customs fees paid
    • Provide proof that the order was returned to zZounds
    • You will be issued a refund by the Canada Customs & Revenue/CBSA Casual Refund Centre

So while the customs feeds are absolutely the purchasers problem, they can deal with Canadian Customs to get it back by jumping through red tape. Technically. I only bring it up because I was just looking at their return policy and it seemed relevant XD

I looked up how big it was and thought “holy crap that won’t fit here”. But how does it sound?

I don’t know, I put it back in the box :see_no_evil:

and am talking down an anxiety attack because I forgot my meds today and the thought of paying return shipping on something so massive and heavy is turning my stomach :joy:

Yeah, I’ve got a return before but it’s a huge PITA dealing with Canadian customs refunds. You can’t give customs a 1* yelp review. They just don’t care and are not incentivized to help.
