GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

I opened up one of my Nektar expression medals and the circuit is, of course, dead simple. Since the B6 has no calibration adjustment, and Zoom’s own pedal is 100k, I’ll probably replace the 10k pot with one so it all works as intended.

Imho only get a QC if it’s for the whole band. You can solve a lot of routing with that unit and make the sound engineer really happy too. Just my 2 cents.

Can confirm, one rehearsal my bass went through the guitarist’s Quad Cortex XD

It might also be nice if I was doing vocals and wanted effects (but for all I know the sound guy hates that)

I’ve sold $2400 worth of stuff over the weekend. I might clear $2000 after fees.

But I’m still not buying a Quad Cortex

That’s about 2/3 of why it would be my choice, yeah. Although it is also going to have the best modelling.

it was a reason I wanted one. I could backup the entire band even if the guitarists insisted on using their own gear. Just steal their amp’s soul and store it as a preset in case their amp died for a show.

In unrelated news, fuck iLok and their $25 transfer fees for licenses.

Yeah this is really annoying when you have to transfer licenses. You also need a creditcard, so without you are kinda screwed.

So I just discovered the Mooer PreAMP Live. Ola Englund did a demo of it. It has 12 presets and has all the preamps of their little micro preamp modeler pedals, cab sim IR loader, noise date pre and post, boost pre and post.

But it also did a really convincing tone capture of his Randall Satan :eyes: I think they are overpriced on Amazon right now, $392.38 tells me it is currently above MSRP. I bet it’s $349.99 or maybe even $299.99, but I don’t know for sure. Thomann has them for $313 after shipping. Some US sellers on Reverb are, however, listing it for $399 :woman_shrugging:t2: Usually Amazon tells you if you are saving money, so I guess I have no idea what the real price is.

$315 for a tone capturing pedal isn’t bad, imo. Apparently it’s from 2018.

I only have one pedal besides the preamp and it’s a Bass Clone. The x-over is really good. Can’t say I have vast experience but it keeps showing up as a very good option.

I hooked my $35 Coolmusic Insane to the Darkglass Element to load the free Hesu 2x12 IR Ola Englund made available.

Absolutely just crushes basically everything and I’m just like “I need nothing for guitaring right now” :joy: :ok_hand:t2:

Kinda want a red bass. It’s niggling at me right now. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before seeing that red C-5 GT at Guitar Center once. The band I’m in is kinda red-themed (in the name and the singer’s hair/look/stage persona), so it feels appropriate to have one. I’m weird. Or justifying a want and not a need, obviously. But it’s really just a want, so I’m mainly looking at say, a $600 Schecter Stiletto Extreme 5 or something like that. Nothing nuts. Jackson, bless their Fender-owned hearts, uses 35" scale as well on their 5-strings. I probably won’t do it, but it’s at the back of my mind.

If I went expensive/nice, it would very likely be the C-5 GT that leaves probably. After replacing the EMG HZs in the Stiletto Studio and its preamp, it’s my favorite bass atm, though the GT is still great.

And there’s always the possibility of not being in this band at some point in the future, of course :upside_down_face:

When it comes to GAS, a lead foot is an expensive appendage. :foot:  :joy:

Solar sells 4-string “baritone” basses they call them. 35" scale, strung up for BEAD tuning out of the box. That’s rather interesting…

I know I’ve said The Beast is the last full-sized 6-string for me… But I do like Xcellerators. Its only sin is gloss finish, but that’s one sanding and new finish coat away from matte/satin…

Edit If it had matching block inlays I might have just thrown caution to the wind lol. But red is not an option at Kiesel…

Apropos band name: Slippery Slope.

There just aren’t a lot of Xcellerators out there :frowning:

What would I call it, though? The Brute? :joy:

Edit I shouldn’t have named it. I kinda dig The Brute. The Beast and The Brute  Something else sold on Reverb today…

Red never goes out of style if you leave the band

True. I also have a Carvin DC125C in Ferrari Red as well. It’s on my list to sell, but I haven’t, yet.

Edit Tuning a 34" down to A0 initially appears problematic on paper… I have The Beast tuned down there on a .130 but I’ve been playing ambient bass on it :upside_down_face: The tension just tanks so hard at 34" and it’s harder to come back from via thick strings, too. It drops 8lbs from B0 to A0, and a .145 even only brings it back to 35lbs. Oof… I might could make it work with a .140 at 33lbs; .135 is 31.8lbs. I’ll see how The Beast handles it later tonight when I get home.

There’s also a “flawless” C-5 GT in red for $950 - I can get about that for my purple one. Their listing has been up for 7 months and was recently discounted by $100
