Well I’m trying to cram a 16.5" x 9" Zoom B6 onto it with an expression and volume pedal, a 6" x 5.5" Future Impact, and either a few TC single pedals or a Plethora X3 or X5
It’s mostly due to the B6 and dual pedals
Alternatively I toss the single pedals onto my Pedaltrain Nano and the exp/vol on the floor.
I have not been able to keep all pedals pointing the right way. Have to rotate some, takes a lot of planning. The B6 can hang over a bit or go sideways too (not ideal but works if on an end).
Probably just saving my money. I’m a bass player in a metal band, I don’t need to add a pedalboard for the extras; they’ll sit on the floor in my room perfectly fine.
I think the one I made from 1x4s in the attic is 24" wide… a massive 36" x 14.5"
I forgot about LEDs… so I’m kinda back to wanting a pretty lit up pedalboard
Or like @terb says, maybe try working with the multieffector so that it is all you need.
I think the actual problem here is you really want a Quad Cortex and are settling for a B6. The B6 is great, but the QC (and even the Helix) are out of its league. Same is true for all the Boss products - they are great for what they are, but they are still mid-tier.
Well I couldn’t afford a Quad Cortex until tonight
I really do like the B6 but it’s just not… my everything. I think it’s great just for bass, and if it’s approached a specific way. It just isn’t for the person that wants a lot of effects, even if they only want a lot of effects only 5% of the time…
I just don’t think I can justify the Quad Cortex, as mighty as it is. Even if it’s practically perfect in every way But I am throwing a lot of things at a problem that only it can solve… Maybe my issue is bitterness at not getting one for $1200 XD I don’t know…
I also overcomplicate things when I’m manic… And tbh, the effects of the Zoom suck aside from a few. The choruses are good, the “bass flanger” and “bass phaser” are barely audible, the reverbs are only okay. But I also don’t need really good effects in a band. I just need to sound good on bass…
I hear you there - on my B3n I found the modulation effects to be good (though some were noisy), the compressors to be outstanding, and the distortion to be simply bad.
The amp sims were a mixed bag but some were good for normal (non-overdrive) tones.
The reverbs I don’t remember well but I probably would have liked them as I greatly prefer digital reverbs. I like my reverb to be ice cold. Some people don’t.
You might just open up for a long thread here, Eric… You are likely to get almost as many answers as there are chorus pedals out there. My point is, of course, that this is so dependent on one’s own taste and preferences.
There is the Julia that @howard mentioned, the chorus pedals from JamPedals (someone in here has them, I just don’t remember who), the Strymon, the UAFX, the Eventide stuff, and so on…
Likely not going to be settled anytime soon
And… you might like one now, and at some point get tired of it, and then will want another one. Never-ending exploration, never-ending story
Do you want your effects to go out over the DI to the mixer? If so, then put it at the end.
Do you want your clean tone only to go? If so, put it at the start.
Do you want both, on separate channels to the mixer? If so, buy a second DI and do both. If your amp has a DI out you could use that as the post-effect one if you like.
Related, after looking over what the almighty Quad Cortex has on it, and sleeping on it, other than the Aguilar Tone Hammer and DB751 there wasn’t a whole lot interesting to me in the bass amp department; as is tradition.
When using the B6 as just a bass box it really shines. It’s just not a great multieffect, though the effects available are useable. The DI emus are really good, too. I guess on a QC I could use DI IRs or something…
The QC is small, light, and powerful; all that comes at a cost, ofc (and what a cost!). But the B6 still fits in my Fusion’s main pocket and I have single pedals to make up for its shortcomings when ambient jamming at home. Not as portable but vastly cheaper. I’m not a guitarist in a band (yet?) so having “gigging hardware” for guitar isn’t even close to a need, either. I wanted the QC for guitaring and bassing and synthing and… yeah. In that regard it’s probably cheaper in the end…
My dumb ass will probably end up with a G6 and then I can bitch about that lol
The G6 has 7 effect slots. But is it more powerful than the B6? Because on guitar you really do need that preamp and cab/IR… will I be left with like 30% CPU for effects?
(being facetious, obviously I can look for reviews. On the B6 nobody mentioned the shitty CPU at all… naturally. F’ing shills or jaded bass players, all of them )
But a G11 is approaching Helix LT money, even if I do like the Zoom 7th Heaven amp model But I don’t need to worry about that. I plug my guitar in direct…
