This is where I go…”so shut up and replace them for $8 for Christ sake, you replace everything else on the damn basses but this is where you draw the line?”.
So, the boss dual cube bass lx (or a suitable permutation) has arrived
First impression, it probably sounds better than the harley benton 40b I have been using so far at home. The drive is very nice, unlike the Amp type switch, which at first is a bit weird, IMHO.
I would have preferred a stripped down, possibly cheaper, version without all the fancy stuff I don’t need.
I’m playing around a bit longer before a definitive decision, especially how it works battery operated, but likely it’s going to stay
Edit: it fits - barely - in my bike bag (ortlieb back roller). Not that bass is a very bycicle friendly instrument, but it can be done
Any knob replacement or aesthetic modification will devalue that bass. Case and point. This poor fools added pickguard and changed the knob and the value dropped from normally going price of $2300-2600+ to less than $1900 as it was sold after the offer was made. May be the seller was watching Lobster video, lol.
it did. I like the blonde one, too. I was in the market for a red bass at the time, though.
Yes, most of their reds are called that, but not all. This was quite specifically called “Vampyre” and they also have a gorgeous C-7 guitar I want in a finish they call Red Reign
Sadly it isn’t on their site anymore as a color for the Customs.
Oh god… I feel GAS…
Local pickup only
Unrelated, ADSR is selling BFD3 for $50 until December 5th:
Nice basses!
Guess I am mainly familiar with the “Black Cherry” color, due to keeping track of left handed bass models. For Schecter, for LH bass offerings in any red colors, they have:
Stiletto Extreme and Omen Extreme 4 & 5 strings in Black Cherry
and
Hellraiser Extreme 4 & 5 strings in Crimson Red Burst Satin.
No Vampire Red or Red Reign for LH, but that’s okay. Personally, I like the look of the Stiletto Studio (Honey Satin):
I was this → ← close to getting one. It was a toss-up between that and my Custom. The deciding factor?
When I had my neck-through-body Carvins, I wasn’t 100% fond of the neck-through-body. And I really liked the 6-bolt mating of body and neck on my Stiletto Extreme. So it came down to bolt-on versus neck-through, and I went bolt-on.
I think they’re both downright gorgeous.
whispers Psst! I bet if you reached out to the seller they’d work with you.
This is why I passed on the SBV-J2 I found a while back. Guy wanted to charge a premium for the mods he added that significantly devalued the bass. It’s still for sale.
With Lobster I am not surprised. The dude degraded a Dingwall to sound like a Jazz Bass
Jazz basses sound fine for what they are, but just like I wouldn’t want to drop a Ford F-150 engine into a Ferrari, I wouldn’t be modding a Dingwall to sound like a Jazz either.
Speaking of Dingwall and changing the conversation away from the Lobster boil… 🫣
Any thoughts on the fanned fret setup? Obviously a Dingwall isn’t in my GAS budget, but a nice fanned fret burl topped Ibanez might be. Any fans/skeptics/haters want to talk me into or out of it?
It’s a non issue. You don’t feel it from minute one. The only thing I don’t like about my Ibanez is the nut. They way they designed it put the bunt in the way of playing first fret a bit.
If I was any closer he’d get sick of me stopping by and my wife would get suspicious. It’s a good hour and 15 minutes without traffic, which is rare here in the land that sense forgot.
Its funny, When I played fan fret, my left hand barely noticed. the one people don’t talk about is your right hand. on my Ibanez EHB I have to move my right hand left when playing the d and g string to get the same tone because playing in 1 spot would make the high notes too nasal sounding.
