There’s no business like show business.
There’s no business I know.
My new practice setup.
Bass >> Laney Digbeth DB-PRE preamp >> DAI (that acts as a mixing console really) >> Headphones or Studio Monitors.
This preamp has both Aux-in and Headphones Out so I can also use it on its own.
Most importantly I like the sound of it and I no longer have to start the Garage Band with its Bass Amp Designer. Just need to add a reasonably priced compressor and I am golden (for now).
I like Lobster. I enjoy his campy schtick claw ratings, and honest opinions that I find more useful then most sponsored crap. I don’t agree with him on everything, but appeciate his honesty, playing, and applaud his disdain for formal attire. I wonder at times whether his on camera persona is ‘enhanced’ by activities immediatly before filming. Also, he annoys my wife, so there is that.
Haha, perfect
Heard good things about this preamp. The latest Laney amp and cabs are good too!
I splurged on the Empress bass compressor, and I’m super happy
Wasn’t sure where to post this, but I saw that Panda Sound’s “bass instrument” (ie sample library for Kontakt) is a Carvin LB-75. Nice. I’ve been using Shreddage Abyss for composing away with my basses but this is tempting. They should be having a sale near the end of the month, I want a few of their drum kits…
In other news, ML Sound Labs is having a 50% off sale and they do have a bass amp plugin:
(despite clearly having a Fender Jazz Bass on the “cover” lol)
And their Cab Sim Mikko is insane. You can do all the mixing of speakers and mics and positions then export a .wav file IR to use elsewhere
a 6-string Stiletto Studio in trans black I’ve had my eye on is down to $750… but then I couldn’t put Fishman Fluences into it (they don’t make a 6-string).
I guess the next best thing would be EMG45 Js. But I really, really do not need another full-sized 6-string bass. And The Beast might turn it into kindling during a jealous rage while I sleep, so it’d be a waste of money.
You never know… the Stiletto may slice the Beast into little pieces.
So what tone wood makes for the best kindling? I’m thinking ash
Stupid Deal of the Hour: Markbass 2x10 for $450
Nah, something lighter, like poplar or pawlonia.
While I have no clue how to play this. I love it. The mawh factor is off the chart. I couldn’t stop smiling.
That looks like The Neck That Ate Chicago standing guard over your basses.
It’s like a Bass Dalek
“EXTERMINATE!”
Not gonna lie it does feel bigger. Notes feels more forgiving than the standard scale fretless.
The G string feels like it’s in a different area code, lol.
I bet that’s got some serious neck dive. Where are the strap buttons?
…
I kid, I kid.
The only bass you own that makes the Bongo look small.
And it has a much better looking body shape than the Bongo, too.
