GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

Sad thing is Joe, the builder, is close enough to me that he has personally delivered the last two within an hour and a half of me purchasing them. And his builds are awesome. This one will fester in my head as I try to resist the pull of GAS.

Why’s that a sad thing? Have him deliver it to your workplace. Or, just go pick it up at your leisure. Done and done.

There are just too many bad jokes that fall in line here with that name on the headstock. :joy:

The big difference between a 51p and a 54p is the 54ps body is contoured. The 51p is a slab of wood. Not surprised it’s cheaper.

Not saying it isn’t tempting, just saying

I know…I have joked with him about it several times

Different pickup on this build. A lot of the differences are small but you know how GAS can be.

If it were me I’d go for it. It’s tempting me and I need a bass like I need a hole in the head

But some folks have feelings about a contoured body so I thought I’d mention it

I have to get the wife onboard. She just asked for a smart tv for her exercise room. I’ll get that for her, then I’ll get the bass. Tit for tat…BTW, his builds are so damned good I am considering getting the redwood Jazz as well. As an aside, did you install the True Custom Shop pickup yet? If so, what did you think?

Just a thought, @EddieJones, but if you’re set on getting it, it would probably be wise to tell your buddy to hold it for you. :dollar: :guitar:

He is in TX at the moment and will not be back until Wednesday. I already told him I was interested. He is about an hour north of me and will probably bring it to me at work like he did the last two.

Sounds like a plan. Congrats.

I have not installed it yet. It takes a smaller screw and I would have do the toothpick hack on the screw holes and I’m not there yet.

Does he do custom build? I mean if I had a particular bass I wanted, a 51p or 54p, and provided a Fralin pickup, would he build one? Not there with the money yet so I haven’t reached out but you might know

Yeah, and he awesome at it. I’m sure he could put together anything you want. And he is reasonable.

Hey, I have three full scale ‘Leos’; JB-2, SB-2 and a P!
They were all exceptional values!

I really don’t need an amp and a cab… :grimacing:

This will end badly

Got to play this little nugget out last night. I’m gonna call it the best 60 bucks I’ve spent in a long time. Found a patch with a Tweed Bassman model in it. Just had to turn a couple effects in the chain off and leave the amp and cab Sim on. Also left the compressor on. My biggest concern was it handling the lower frequencies of the low B string of that six string Ibanez I played. No problem at all! Happily using this again.
This little exercise was in no way an attempt to qualify or disqualify the brand for me. I already have a number of Zoom pedals that I’ve been happy with in the past. 505, G3, B3, MS60B, and and MS70CDR. Just looking for something budgetary and versatile. Found it!

yeah, those old and simple modeling preamps are sometimes really interesting.

In this video Greggor talks about his pedal board and a pending joint promotion with Jam Pedals. He mentions having sent them his prized Ampeg Sub-Blaster Octave Divider pedal within the last year for them to clone it.

I’ll put my post here since it’s sort of related to fighting off G.A.S. I’m currently still in noob mode, about 1/3 of the way through the B2B course. I have one bass (Squire Affinity J bass), and it’s a good beginner bass. I’ve been wanting a second bass for a while, but have held myself off because I know I don’t need it right now. So, I’ve decided that I’ll treat myself to what I’ll call a graduation gift when I eventually complete the course and ace all the workouts listed for super badass status. Since my current bass is passive with only 20 frets, full scale 24 fret is a must and I’d like something active to give me some variety. What should I get?
