GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 1)

Very cool on the red body. Although I do like the classic chrome plate, too.

Yeah I dig that! Nice work.

I have a sterling short scale - is there a place out there I can find replacement bridges etc? I want to black out the hardware.

If you want OEM one in black, this is nearly impossible.

Not that I am aware of. I know that Music Man and Sterling show replacement parts on the site. You might look there. You could also have your stock ones painted or coated. More time consuming but you get what you want. I wouldn’t mind a black and gold hammertone myself…

there is a myth out there, like growl said, that you cannot do this (no knock on growl because this is the commonly stated thing. i believe it used to be the case that they wouldn’t). i can tell you with 100% certainty that MM will indeed sell you black factory hardware for your bass. two caveats: 1. you have to send them your existing hardware for them to swap it out. 2. it is pretty crazy expensive. you can email them for deets. sorry i don’t remember the prices, this was a few years ago that i asked but it was pricey :grimacing:

Your best bet is Hipshot as far as quality and fits.

if you don’t need the factory hardware, this is what i would do.

Take a look at ESP LTD, especially a B-4E.
If you buy the ones from a few years back they are beautiful. I love mine.
They are neck thru and play like butter. You should be able to get one from $500 to $800.

Also check out some Schecter basses. Lots of great basses to choose from.
I played a beautiful neck thru Schecter that was drop dead georgios, but they were about $1200 or so.

I will see if I have time to post a picture

This LTD B-4E is awesome. I love mine

This Schecter is awesome.
Make one in a reddish color that I think is awesome

This one is B stock I think, that’s why it’s a few hundred off.

Even in purple too

My local Reverb builder is tempting me again. While I am still mulling the 51P and the redwood Jazz, he send me pics of this one he just finished. My wife is going to stab me in my eyes.

He also has this at an awesome price. Damn GAS is going to kill me one day.

It’s nice but that knot!!! No way for me.
Too distracting.
I’m no wood expert, hey @Barney - do you think a giant knot like that near the edge would be a problem someday?

The way he filled it would probably stabilize it pretty good. He did it n old furniture makers way.

Your local GAS dealer! :joy:

I agree with John, those knots kill it for me as well. If you buy it and you ever decide to unload it, you may have a hard time doing so or you may get a huge hit on resale value. My 2 cents.

Knots are big no-nos on guitars/basses. At least as far as I know. Agree resell would be a thing.

You could always ask for the exact same thing without a knot @EddieJones - why “knot”? Lol

He will build whatever I ask. His builds are pretty much flawless. I am tempted to ask him for a double P of some type.
