Hehe, nice. They are actually just the product photos from their website, but it’s still a nice gesture. Congrats on the new bass; I’m sure we’ll hear how it sounds in one of your covers!

Yes, Sweetwater has it all over GC. Sweetwater is getting most of my business now. They really know customer service.
Congrats on the new bass!

They will get all of the business when GC finally closes all the shops, and hopefully Musicians friend, however I kind of doubt they will get completely out of the biz.

That said, I have had friends that had very good experiences ordering from Musicians Friends. They don’t or won’t talk about being part of GC, as GC doesn’t or won’t talk about being part of Musicians friends (although, I think I had a friend that was told to return a product to a local GC instead of sending back to Musicians friend, but that is the closest it gets.
This is common with retailers that own more then one chain however. (not the return part)

But I have come to hate GC, admittedly because of about 3 people at the closes Fountain Valley location and 1 person at the Mission Viejo location, but that is enough to sour my taste for them

I have a GC less than a mile from my house, so I will still use them for small things or if they happen to have a good sale. I don’t think I will ever buy another bass from them.

They are close, but not as close as amazon for the small things.
I also have a local Pawn shop, just a little further and a Sam Ash just a little further (all within a 10 mile radius) that I cold go to for something needed that day, and I rather, and have for the most part since a few bad experiences during covid at the stores.

Ditto that, @PamPurrs . . . :+1:

I’ve been a very happy Sweetwater customer for two years now.
Good luck with your new bass!

Cheers

You know, as one of the more active 5 string players, that I communicate with alot, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on (of course you would have to play one) the multi scale fanned fret 5 string basses.
Personally, I hate the look.
I know there are good reasons behind it, but to me, it looks like something some A-hole did to make him look innovative. Granted, many of the things we use today, and many of the things I love, some A-hole, many years ago, made it because he thought it would look cool, make him famous and get him laid.

IDK, Lobster loves that Ibanez Headless 5 string fanned fret multi scale bass that he got earlier this year (if you watch some of his first videos, he got the first one in the country, about a month before they were shipped to stores, and he was so damn happy, then when he played it, he absolutely loves it and it is one of his favorite basses that he has on his wall, and he has alot of nice basses) and not only is it headless, and not only is it Fanned Fret, and not only is it 5 string Multi Scale (actually I don’t care about that, except you need fanned frets for it to work), but the damn thing is Seafoam Green, which is basically Mint with a hint of blue in it.
I don’t like Mint, Headless, Fanned Fret Multi-scale basses, but it sure does get some raving reviews by Lobster and the others that I have seen play it.

So, I was just curious if you have ever played one, or if you ever would consider trying one (doesn’t have to be headless or Sea-foam green )

No, I’ve never even seen one. It really doesn’t sound like anything I’d get excited about, but of course I’m an adventurous and capricious woman so there’s no telling what I may do when the tide changes or the wind spins me into a different direction.

I am pretty dubious of the supposed ergonomic benefits but the string tension argument makes sense.

All it takes is your favorite guy at your favorite local store to have one on the wall.

Whats his number again?

Thats why the Multi Scale doesn’t bother me, it is the look of the fanned frets, but of course to have proper tune, you would need to fan the fret to match the multi scale.

I will admit, and tell on myself, that my initial feeling about them, that still holds to this day was because I just thought some D-bag designed it to be “CUTE”, and I don’t mean the bass being cute, or a “Cute D-bag”, I mean the D-Bag being “CUTE” (as in being a Bloody “fill in the blank”) when he did it.
But…
After actually understanding the reasoning behind it, and that it actually makes sense, I have to call my self out for being the D-bag that judged a book by the cover.
I still don’t like it, but at least the opinion was formed with all the facts.
Well…
Still have not played one, so there is still one thing to do before I write them off as something I won’t mess with.

@PamPurrs, just like your Hoffner feeling so comfortable and easy to play due to the light weight short scale, hallow body, etc… and how you fell for a 4 string after meeting for a blind date,
Players do say that these fanned frets are very comfortable to play and easy to adapt to. Of course that is from bassing professionals, or advanced bass players on Youtube that I hear it from mostly, not from intermediate to advanced players such as yourself and / or novices like me.

Who knows, it might be the perfect 5.
Its not like I have not gone thru my fair share of basses to find “my thing”, and I will follow that up with a “for now”

LOL @T_dub you know me too well :smiley_cat:

The funny thing though is when form triumphs over function in the end anyway

If you look at Dingwalls, due to the headstock shape, the E and A strings end up longer than the B string when it comes to tension length.

that said - I think that looks awesome and at this point Dingwalls would look goofy to me without the fanned frets. It’s just their thing.

Yeah, sounds right, a Ding thing to put it politely for mixed company. LOL
I am not a huge fan of Dingwalls, and mostly cuz they remind me of fanned frets. Not the first bass I saw it on, but a bass I don’t know if I have NOT seen it on.
